Carol LeFevre Milligan

August 24, 1932 — September 25, 2017

Carol LeFevre Milligan, 85, passed from this life to the next on September 25, 2017.

Carol was born in Minersville Utah on August 24, 1932, the second of eight children born to William Darrel and Gladys Woodward LeFevre. When she was three years old, the family moved to Franklin, Idaho, where she grew up. Those were Great Depression years, and Carol learned hard work and frugality, qualities evident throughout her life.

In high school she enjoyed dramatics and art. After high school, she attended Utah State Agricultural College (now Utah State University). There she pursued an elementary education degree and minored in art. She also met a handsome young man, Vince Milligan, whom she married on September 1, 1954, in the Salt Lake temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Vince and Carol came cross country to upstate New York, where Vince pursued schooling at Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute. They lived in Albany, then in Ghent for many years. In recent years, they divided their time between Utah and New York. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served faithfully in many capacities.

Mom was an artist with a keen eye for beauty. Her children remember her love of art and books, pretty dishes, handmade quilts, beautiful crafts, and Christmas ornaments. She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Happy memories include warm cookies and homemade pie; going to the Chinese Restaurant, Book Barn, Olana, and Lake Taghkanic; sleeping on the screened-in porch; fireflies; playing Sorry; Pepperidge Farm; backyard campfires; shooting BB guns at soda cans; and delicious Thanksgiving and Sunday dinners. Mom was generous, gentle, and compassionate.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Rex Vincent Milligan; daughters Cheri (Jay) Burton, Ohio; Karen Milligan, Smithfield, Utah; Linda (Larry) Cox, Arizona; Christine (Stephan) Hash, Mapleton, Utah; Valerie Milligan Burgess, Ghent, NY; eight grandchildren: Hillary Twaddle; Ian Burton; Bryan Cox; Steven Cox; Matthew Hash; Sarah Hash; Samuel Isaac Burgess; and William Vincent Burgess. She is also survived by a brother, Cecil LeFevre; sisters Anna Godfrey, Phyllis Richards, Marion Shumway, and Donna Redington; numerous extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John LeFevre; and her sister, Renee Nuttall.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 3, at 11:00 in the LDS church house located at 79 E 200 S, Smithfield. Friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home at 85 South Main in Smithfield on Monday, October 2, from 7-9 pm; and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 am at the church house. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Services under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held in New York at a later date.
