Afton Mae Hayward Stuart

Afton Mae Hayward Stuart, 87, passed away on October 19, 2013 in Logan, Utah. She was born January 6, 1926, in Logan, the only daughter of Ira Neibaur and Dora Roberts Hayward. She graduated from Logan High School and Utah State University. She received her nurse's training during World War II through the Cadet Nurse Corps program at the University of Utah and became a registered nurse. Afton married Darrel Marshall Stuart on November 30, 1951 in the Logan Temple. She and her husband were the parents of six children, seventeen grandchildren, and, at the time of her passing, five great-grandchildren. Afton was well known for her many talents and abilities. She was an excellent cook and an author whose articles were published in the Herald Journal, Ensign, Church News and many other publications. She was a gifted teacher who taught both Spiritual Living and Homemaking in Relief Society for many years. She was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed doing fine handwork. She also loved music and reading. Afton was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Darrel, her brothers Harold Ira Hayward and Sterling Roberts Hayward and her daughter Sharon. One grandchild, James David Stuart, also preceded her in death. She is survived by her son David Laurie Stuart of Clarkston, Utah, her daughter Ellen Roger Lemaster of Burns, Wyoming, her son Harold Kathleen Stuart of San Jose, California, her daughter Anne Steven Dennis of Rexburg, Idaho, and her daughter Paula Dayne Medlyn of Windsor, Colorado. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at the Nelson Mortuary, 162 E 400 North in Logan at 11 a.m. A viewing will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Nelson Mortuary, and again from 9:30 to 10:30 on the day of the service.
Interment will be in the Logan Cemetery
