Arva Hansen Covey

April 20, 1918 — October 25, 2014

Arva Hansen Covey, 96, passed away in the early morning of Saturday October 25, 2014 at her home in Smithfield, Utah with family by her side. Arva was born April 20, 1918 in Smithfield, Utah to George Ole Hansen and Lillie Vale Farrell. She was the oldest of five daughters. She was married to Harry Douglas Covey on June 22, 1938 in the Logan LDS temple. They raised their 5 children in Smithfield. Arva graduated salutatorian from North Cache High School at age 17. She continued her education studying nursing in Ogden and business at the LDS Business School. She worked several years at the Cache County Dept. of Public Welfare. She served faithfully in the organizations of the LDS Church. She enjoyed her years as a missionary doing name extraction and attending the temple. Arva possessed pioneer strength and perseverance, independence, dedication and creative talents. She played the piano, and was a remarkable seamstress.
Arva is survived by her daughters Charlotte, Claire, Vicky and Colleen; her sisters Georgia and Mary Lou; 28 grandchildren, 78 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her son Steven and sisters Willa and Bonnie. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday October 30, 2014 in Smithfield 1st Ward LDS Chapel, 79 E 200 S. A viewing will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday October 29, 2014 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield, 85 S. Main and on Thursday at the Church from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
