Barbara Kay Richardson Ellett

February 5, 1947 — March 29, 2009

Barbara Kay Richardson Ellett, 62, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009, in the company of her loving family after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Barbara was born February 5, 1947, in Ogden, Utah a daughter of Jewel A. Richardson and Margaret L. Winter. Barbara was raised in Huntsville and Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ben Lomond High School in 1965. She also graduated from Weber State College and Utah State University with Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education. She married David Henry Ellett on October 14, 1971, for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He became her best friend and eternal companion. Dave and Barbara moved to the Olathe, Kansas area in July 1979, where they were blessed with many friends.
As an educator, Barbara loved children and served as a resource teacher in Weber County Schools and later in the Olathe School District where she worked for 28 years. She was dedicated to her profession and loved working with students with special needs. Upon her retirement, she was working as a Special Services Instructional Resource Teacher mentoring educators new to the teaching profession and the Olathe School District. Barbara held many callings as a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and loved working with the sisters in the Olathe, Kansas Stake. She served faithfully in many positions; her most memorable was as the Olathe Stake Relief Society President. She truly loved the sisters in the stake and it was obvious that they loved her in return.
She is survived by her son, Matthew William, of Overland Park, KS, daughter, Heather Glenn Ellis, and grandchildren Caden, Connor, Courtney, and Corbin of Abilene TX, and her parents of Ogden, UT. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister, Robert Katheryn Richardson, Michael Tina Richardson of Layton, UT, Nancy Richardson, Harrisville, UT.
She was preceded in death by her husband and grandparents.
The family extends a special thank you to the kind nurses and specialists at Olathe Medical Center, as well as Kansas City Hospice House who loved and attended to Barbara's every need. We also appreciate the kindness of many friends whose thoughts and prayers helped so much. Services were held Thursday, April 2, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Olathe Stake Center in Olathe, KS. A graveside service will be held at the Smithfield, UT Cemetery 300 East Center Street at 12:00 noon, Monday, April 6, 2009. Nelson Funeral Home is serving the Ellett family with local arrangements.
