Betty Marie Locke Maynard

February 25, 1924 — June 11, 2011

Betty Marie Locke Maynard was born in Iowa on February 25, 1924 and passed away peacefully on June 11, 2011 at Logan Regional Hospital. Betty is survived by her four children – Gary and Kathy Maynard of Grass Valley, CA; Teri and Claude Bravmann of Oak Harbor, WA; Linda and Craig Romer of Concord, CA; and Joe and Gisele Maynard of Smithfield, UT. She has twelve grandchildren, and twenty-seven great grandchildren. She is also survived by her older brother, Harold Locke of Turlock, CA. Her greatest joy is her family. Betty was a good student-athlete in high school. She worked in Washington D.C. as a secretary during World War II and later moved to California where she met her husband, Sherrel Maynard. They married in 1948. They loved to dance, play golf, and be with family. He passed away in 1992. She was baptized into the LDS church five years after her marriage. Her second greatest joy was doing family history work and going to the temple. Betty worked as an elementary school secretary for many years. After 50 years in her home in Concord, CA, Betty moved to Utah, to live with her son, Joe, and his family in 2005. 2008 was a poor health year for Betty. She broke her hips and had a stroke. After that she moved to Legacy House in Logan, UT, where her quick smile and friendly manner won her many new friends. She was always young at heart and didn't like to be called old. In spite of her physical limitations for the past few years, she was always ready to go and do things. The day before her stroke she attended a great granddaughter's baptism and an open house for a grandson and his new bride. We, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, miss her, but know she is happy and no longer has the physical limitations of old age. Funeral services will be held in the Smithfield 11th Ward building at 79 E 200 S, Smithfield, Utah on Saturday, June 25th, at 3:00 pm, preceded by a viewing at 2:00 pm. A second service will be at the Concord 1st Ward building at 1590 Denkinger Road, Concord, California on Monday, June 27th at 10:00 A.M. preceded by a viewing at 9:00 A.M.. Interment at Memory Gardens following the funeral in Concord.
