Billie Carol Wilcock Curtis

Billie Carol Wilcock Curtis, Paradise, died Sunday, July 31, 2011, at home after a three-year battle with endometrial cancer. She was 63. Billie cherished her children, her husband, and her LDS faith. She was also particularly proud of the college degree she earned later in life, inspired by her children. She was born Dec. 21, 1947, in Richfield, Utah, to Melba West and Wayne LaVar Wilcock. She was the oldest of four children, including sister Angela and brothers Buddy and Wayde. She graduated from Clearfield High School in 1966 and Utah State University in 2007, earning a bachelor's of science in horticulture with an ornamental emphasis. She married David Lee Curtis on Dec. 16, 1966, in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children, Angela, Lee, Erick, and Christina. She is survived by her mother, her husband, her brothers, her children, daughters-in-law Melissa Curtis Erick and Ruby Curtis Lee, sons-in-law Paul Curtis Angela and Nathan Thomas Christina, granddaughters Emerson and Alexi Curtis, grandsons Kyle, Gabriel, and Benjamin Curtis, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, and nieces, including Sally McDonald, to whom she was particularly close. She was preceded in death by her sister, father, and three stillborn children, Tessie Lynn Curtis and two sons. Her best friend in junior high school and high school was Cheryl Peterson, who introduced Billie to her cousin David Lee Curtis. Billie met David while she was a junior in high school and he was a newly returned missionary. After marrying they lived in Paradise, Yreka, Calif.; Fall River Mills, Calif.; Loyalton, Calif.; Pocatello, Idaho; and Preston, Idaho. While in Loyalton she was elected city treasurer. Billie was a hard worker, whether it was delivering newspapers, decorating wedding cakes, serving school lunches, tasting cheeses for the university, or helping on the family farm. After her college graduation she worked as a research assistant at the Research Greenhouse at Utah State. She was grateful for the opportunity to serve as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. Billie's great loves were her family, her church, learning, and nature. She loved all God's creations, be they people, animals, or plants. The people in her life knew her as an example of integrity, honor, and generosity. Viewing will be Wednesday evening from 6-8 pm at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan, 162 E. 400 North. The funeral will be Thursday, August 4th at the Paradise Third Ward old church, 9060 S. 200 West. A viewing will be held prior to the services from 10:30-11:30 at the chapel. Services will start at 12 noon. She will be buried in the Paradise City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting Four Paws Rescue of Utah or the American Cancer Society.
