Daniel Grover Monaco died Sunday May 28th, 2017 at age 73 at the University Of Utah Hospital due to complications from a brain tumor. He leaves his wife Carolyn of 48 years and his children Peter, Tom, Lara (deceased), Jennifer, and Anna; sisters Laduska Adriance, and Patricia Monaco and his 10 grand children and 1 great grandson Dan was born in Berkley California on December 17, 1943 to his parents Josephine Dawson and Michele Monaco. He was raised in Walnut Creek California. Dan was an Air Force veteran during the Vietnam War and served at the Clark Air Force base in the Philippines. He also earned a Bachelors degree in geography from Brigham Young University. He was a successful salesman in the medical field for over 30 years. Dan loved his family and was a devoted husband and father. He dedicated his time to his family and loved the outdoors. Dan served on the National Ski Patrol for 25 years. He enjoyed hiking, biking, windsurfing, and skiing. Dan had unparalleled determination. After his first brain surgery 17 years ago, he completed the Seattle to Portland 200 mile bike ride in one day. He continued to hike and ski despite his challenges. He also had a passion for gardening and carpentry. Dan crafted woodwork and spent hours creating his beautiful garden and yard. Dan and Carolyn raised their five children in the Seattle Washington area and moved to Smithfield Utah 5 years ago to retire near the mountains which he loved. Dan was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He and Carolyn served an 18 month mission for the LDS Welfare Services. He loved to help and serve others. He was loved and respected by many and will be missed! Funeral services will be held Friday, June 2, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. in the Smithfield 19th Ward Chapel, 155 West 400 North, Smithfield. Friends may call at the church on Friday from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com.
