Dean Calder Smith

Dean Calder Smith, age 82, surrounded by family, passed away on May 27, 2011 at his home in Hyrum Utah from causes related to old age and his continuing struggle with Parkinson's Disease. Dean was born March 23, 1929 in Fish Haven, Idaho to Elmer Hyrum and Rosella Calder Smith. He married his sweetheart, Dolores Loveland in the Logan Temple on June 1, 1949. Dean was a spiritual giant as well as an amazing husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa. Dean was especially interested in carpentry and was always building things. He knew what hard work was and taught his children that nothing in this life came free. He was strong, yet gentle and bold in his beliefs, yet humble and teachable. He loved Bear Lake and spending time there with his family. Dean is survived by his wife, Dolores; children Terry Nancy of Salt Lake, Toni Thorley Burnell of Seattle, Rock Trina of Hyrum and Mark Kathy of Salt Lake; 17 grandchildren 10 spouses; 18 great grandchildren; brothers O'Dell Helen, Kent Colleen, and Kay Jaci. He was preceded in death by his sister June Powell A.J.. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 1, at the St. Charles Ward building, St. Charles, Idaho at 1:00 pm. Friends may call prior to the funeral from 11:30-12:30 at the church or at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E 400 N, Logan Utah on Tuesday, May 31 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Interment Fish Haven Cemetery.
