DelRoy Griffiths

October 11, 1943 — January 25, 2014

DelRoy Griffiths, our dear brother, husband, father and grandfather, 70, passed away on January 25, 2014. Del was born in Logan, Utah, on October 11, 1943, the son of Dell Clark and Ardith Marie Larsen Griffiths. He was raised in Clarkston and graduated from North Cache High. Del loved sports and played for the Smithfield Blue Sox before leaving Utah for Hawaii in 1967 where he studied martial arts and was the Hawaii State Champ in Karate for two years. Most importantly, Del met Gwendolyn Marshall in Honolulu. They were both employed at JCPenny and met when Del worked in sales and Gwen handed out the paychecks. After marrying in 1968, Del and Gwen lived and worked in Honolulu for a few years before returning to Utah to raise their family. Del worked in sales for many years, then ATK until his retirement and then worked for the City of Logan City in a post retirement job. He continued to study martial arts and still taught karate at age 70. Del was often seen running, biking or walking in North Logan. He enjoyed the simple things in life: he loved the game of chess, Gwen's home cooked meals, following his favorite sports teams, watching his grandchildren race each other in a footrace and winning at Rook. Throughout the years, Del served in many callings in the Logan 22nd ward, Hillcrest 1st ward. He fulfilled his assignments and responsibilities with an admirable devotion. At the time of his death he was a temple worker in the Logan Temple. Del will be remembered as an honorable, kind, friendly and loyal man. He defined what it means to be a "hard worker." His family will treasure the times spent together playing board games and card games and the laughter that was shared. We will miss Del's stories, his good-natured laugh, and his never-ending desire to discuss politics and what was happening in the world. Del is survived by his wife of 45 years, Gwen, of North Logan; his sons Joel Kimberlee of Lantana, Texas, and David Heather of Layton, Utah; daughter Stacey of North Logan; his sisters Sandra Lon Mackelprang of Statesboro, Georgia, and Pamela Tyler Mower of Clarkston. Del was the proud grandfather of six grandsons and three granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. We would like to express our gratitude to the emergency personnel at both the LDS Temple and Logan Regional Hospital. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Del's name to the American Heart Association.
