George Larry Lloyd Walker

George Larry Lloyd Walker returned home to his loving Father in Heaven in the early morning hours of Monday, October 15, 2012 after suffering a stroke while enjoying his beautiful Island Park, Idaho home. Born into a loving home October 7, 1938 in Mt. Sterling, Utah to George Darrold Walker and Gladys Meyers Lloyd. He was the third of six children: Glenda McBride, Delaine Peterson, Norman Walker, Pauline Walker and Colleen Bennett. He graduated from South Cache High School in 1957 where he met his eternal sweetheart Mary A. Weston of 53 years. They were married on April 14, 1959 in the Logan Temple. From this union came three beautiful children: Mary Kaye Weston J. David Pearson of West Jordan, Utah, Gladys Christine deceased, Richard George Walker Marcena Ely of Hyde Park, Utah. He loved very much being a Grandpa and Great Grandpa to nine Grandchildren: Charlene, Joe, Amber, Chris, Julie Ann, Linda, Rick, Emily, Miranda and Five Great- Grandchildren: Rebekah, Breanna, Isaac, Isabella, Taylor and looked forward to more on the way. After High School he learned his life trade as an electrician while serving his country in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Haven Hospital Ship, USS Parson Destroyer and the USS Currier. After returning home from the Navy his family made their home in West Valley City, Utah for the next 40 years. Dad was employed as an electrician with the Union Pacific Railroad for 38 years and dearly loved his Railroad family "Uncle Pete's Pit Crew". After retiring in 2000 Dad and Mom returned back to their roots in Cache Valley settling in Hyde Park for the last 12 years and also enjoying time at their Island Park, Idaho home, where he was working hard while enjoying the great outdoors with mom during his last days. Dad is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and faithfully served his Father in Heaven in many ways and callings; Sunday School Presidency, Elders Quorum President, Bishop of the Granger 3rd Ward for 7 ½ years, served on the High Council and as 1st Councilor in the Singles Ward. Dad was a faithful Home Teacher and served all. He loved the gospel and had a strong and firm testimony. The joy of his life was his wife Mary, family and friends encircled around. Dad had a love for life and taught us the value of hard work, honesty, serving others unconditionally and standing tall through thick and thin. Dad enjoyed many things and working hard was one of them. He was always building something for someone and teaching others his skills. His motto was "The work isn't done until the job is done." He enjoyed reading church history books, learning of his ancestor's lives, and spending time working side by side with the love of his life. Dad fought a good fight to the very end. He will be deeply missed by his eternal companion, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, friends and all whose paths crossed his way. We love you and yearn for the day when we will all be reunited. Preceded in death by his daughter Gladys Christine Walker, parents George Darrold Walker and Gladys Lloyd Meyers, Father and Mother In-law Richard E. Weston and Carma A. Anderson, Brother In-law Lloyd Weston, Nephew Shane L. Weston and Sister Glenda McBride. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in the Hyde Park Stake Center, 535 East 200 South Logan, Utah. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North Logan, Utah and prior to the services from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the Chapel. Burial will be in the Providence City Cemetery.
