Gerry Merrill

March 26, 1944 — September 25, 2012

Our mother, Gerry Merrill, 68, passed away peacefully at her home onTuesday, Sept. 25, 2012. Gerry was born Mar. 26, 1944 in Logan, Utah. She was the daughter of George Blaine and Geraldine Lott Merrill. She was raised in Trenton and resided there most of her life. She was married to James McGaughey on Dec. 14, 1973. She was blessed with twin daughters, Jennifer and Stephanie. Gerry graduated from North Cache High School in 1962. She also attended Utah State Univ. majoring in business. She served an honorable LDS mission in the Central States. She worked for many years at Utah State Univ. in the Athletics and Chemistry and Biochemistry departments where she made many cherished friendships. She has volunteered with the foster grandparent program for the past 10 years. Gerry enjoyed working with the students and touched countless children's lives. Gerry was a lover of all animals but especially her beloved cats. She loved to read and do genealogy . She had recently became an avid indexer for the LDS church and could often be found at her computer trying to finish just one more batch. She also loved to knit , make crafts, sing and play the piano. She is survived by her children, Stephanie McGaughey of Ogden and Jennifer McGaughey of Logan. She is also survived by her brother Jay Mary Merrill of Trenton, her sister Gayle Rod Spencer of DeForest, WI and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Robert Merrill. A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 29 at 11 a.m. at the Trenton Cemetery. A viewing will also be held Friday, Sept 28, at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 E 400 N, in Logan from 6-8p.m.
