Gordon Earl Briggs

March 11, 1950 — August 20, 2010

Gordon Earl ?Buz? Briggs, 60, passed away Friday, August 20, 2010 surrounded by his loving family after a long and courageous battle with health problems resulting from Polio. He was born March 11, 1950 in Tampa, FL to Brigadier General Loran Dale Briggs and Ruth Gordon Briggs. He grew up with his two older sisters, Dale Mearian and Bobbie Pierce, as their father traveled with the Air Force. His father passed away suddenly when he was nine years old and he and his family moved to California. He graduated from Poly Tech High in Riverside, CA where he excelled in shop and woodworking and won awards in this area. He married Elizabeth Milton September 1970 in Riverside, CA and they were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. They had four children, Gina McCracken Chris, Kimberly Guy Steve, Jamie Briggs and Jeffery Briggs Cassie. They later divorced. In April 1990, he married Terry Carlson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She brought five children to the marriage, Brandon Burnham Jana, Tyson Burnham Shannon, Hollye Quain, Anne Burnham and RJ Burnham. They were later blessed with two more children, Sam and Mary. He attended Utah State University while working as a partner in a painting business. Later he worked for Logan Thikol. He then started A&B Woodworks, a custom cabinet shop for 7 years. Then he worked at Thikol as a journeyman machinist. He went back to his love of cabinets, working until he began his own business, Cabinets by Buz, in 2002. His main love in life was his family. He also loved playing pool with his friends and his sons and his church calling as the Ward Financial Clerk. He had a keen sense of humor and wanted it to be known that ?Damn it, damn it, damn it I didn?t want to go this early.? He is survived by his wife, Terry, his children and 20 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Bobbie and 2 grandchildren, Brooke and Brennan.
A viewing will be held at the Nibley Stake Center, 3701 South 450 West, Nibley, UT from 10:00am to 11:30am followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm, also at the stake center.
