Helen Marie Petty Pitcher

Helen Marie Petty Pitcher, passed away peacefully at her home in Smithfield, Utah at the age of 93 on July 3, 2010. She was born in Montello, Nevada on January 31, 1917, to Lewis James Petty and Sarah Ann Reese. In 1919, at the age of 2, she moved with her family to Amalga, Utah, where she learned many skills, and hard work on the farm. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She married her Sweetheart, Leo M. Pitcher, June 19, 1935; they made their home at the south end of Smithfield, Utah which is referred to as "Pitcherville." Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Together they built a dairy farm of their own and raised five children. Marie will be best remembered by her love for her beautiful flower gardens, and her talent of quilting she shared with many. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. You were always welcomed in her home, where you could enjoy a wonderful home cooked meal. She was known for her great attitude on life, and serving others. She always had a way of making you smile and feel good. Marie is survived by her children: Lewis Mary Lee Pitcher, Sally Crossley, R.L. Sandi Pitcher, Jon Joyce Pitcher, Danny Pitcher, 24 grandchildren, 81 great grandchildren, 26 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; Lewis James Petty and Sarah Ann Reese; Siblings: William Reese Petty, Fawn Curry, Lewis James Petty, Annabell Bugger, Jane Bingham; Son-in-law: Perry Hymas Crossley; grandchildren: Duke Pitcher, Kurt Pitcher, Scott Pitcher; and one great grandson; Levi Pitcher. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 9, 2010 at 12:00 Noon in the Smithfield 14th Ward Chapel, 250 East 451 South, Smithfield, with Bishop Robert Gunnell Presiding. Family and friends may call at the Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield, UT from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening, July 8, 2010 and Friday morning from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
