James David Stuart

August 14, 1987 — September 19, 2010

James David Stuart, 23, passed away September 19, 2010 in San Jose, California, of complications related to liver disease.
His was born in Logan, Utah on August 14, 1987, the son of Harold and Kathleen Stuart. James moved with his family to San Jose, California in August 1988.
James was diagnosed with autism at three years of age. Although autism was a severe handicap for James, he rose above that handicap to achieve the Eagle Scout award at age 14. James developed a tremendous ability to understand maps and geography, an ability that was used to great advantage in his life. James contributed his talents many times to projects that required the ability to arrange geographic data in an order that was useful to others.
James was friendly and genuinely concerned about others. He loved to talk to people, and would remember many facts about their lives. He loved to watch the Leigh High School Marching Band perform. He loved to learn and was willing to serve.
James honorably served a three and a half year mission as a referral clerk in the California San Jose Mission and was released a month before his passing. There he learned skills that benefitted him throughout the remainder of his life, and the missionaries he served benefitted greatly from his talents. All those with whom he served loved him.
James is survived by his parents, Harold and Kathleen Stuart of San Jose, California; his sister Elisabeth Gerrit Larsen of Ammon, Idaho; his brother Elder John Stuart, who currently serves in the Paraguay Asuncion Mission; his sister Emily of Provo, Utah; and his grandmother Afton Stuart of Rexburg, Idaho. James was preceded in death by his grandparents Howard and Jennie Davidson and his grandfather Darrel Stuart. The family also acknowledges the many friends and teachers who enriched his life.
Services for James will be held September 23, 2010 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1655 Noreen Dr., San Jose. A viewing will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m., followed by a funeral service beginning at 7:00 p.m.
