Joan Danielson Floyd

August 24, 1933 — April 18, 2015

Brigham City, Utah - Joan Danielson Floyd, age 81, passed away April 18, 2015 at her home in Brigham City, Utah. She was born August 24, 1933, in Paradise, Utah, the fifth child of Joseph Hirst and Margaret Pickett Danielson. She married her eternal sweetheart Merritt Cornelius Floyd September 2, 1961, in the Logan Temple. They are the parents of four children.

They have resided in North Logan, Utah; Montrose, Colorado; Dutch John, Utah and Salt Lake City, Utah where her husband was employed with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. They retired to North Logan, Utah in May 1996.

Her life was one of love and service to her family and her fellow man. She was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous ward and stake callings and loved to mingle with her friends in the Church. She especially loved to teach the children.

She gloried in her family. She was a homemaker all of her life. She loved to play with and teach her children the many wonders of life. She even taught them how to make bread which two of her children still do. She was always there for them when they came home from school hurt and blood streaming down their face. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Her children loved to hear her tell stories and got many good laughs from her humor.

Joan’s desire for learning was a life-long quest. She read the Scriptures through numerous times. She read many books and often read as much of the newspapers as she had time for. After she retired to North Logan with her husband they started reading together. They did this until Joan’s eyesight started making it difficult for her to read. So her husband took on the job of reading to her and she thoroughly enjoyed this. They read somewhere around 25 books together.

Joan relished the beauty of the earth. There was nowhere that she would rather be than in the mountains, especially the San Juan mountains of Western Colorado. She, along with her family, enjoyed many camp outs, backpacking trips and just one day trips into those mountains. She was no slacker and doing her part. She carried a 30 pound right alongside the rest of her family and their backpacks. She especially loved the beauty of the Colorado Columbine in Yankee boy basin.

She is survived by her husband Merritt, one daughter Nancy Joan (Michael) Gardner Claremore, Oklahoma, three sons Joseph Daniel Evanston, Wyoming, Jonathan Neil (Vicky) Wellsvile, Utah, Jerald Arthur (Susan) Durant, Oklahoma, ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two sisters Mildred Obray Riverton, Utah, Afton (Bruce) Thompson Castro Valley, California and one brother, Joseph Arthur (Mariam) Corine, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Rae Perkins and Peggy (Margaret) Danielson (in her infancy).

Funeral services will be held April 25, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. in the North Logan Second Ward under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. Bishop Clayton Carter will preside over the services. Burial will be in the Logan cemetery.
