John Wayne McArthur

Preston, ID ? Wayne McArthur age 96, passed away June 9, 2010 at the Logan Rehabilitation Center. Wayne was born May 6, 1914 in Wilford, Idaho to George and Mary McArthur. He outlived all his nine brothers and sisters.
He attended Sugar City High School until his father passed away. Then Wayne had to stay home and work on the farm.
In 1935 he met Ruby Hamilton at a dance. They dated for a while and then married in Brigham City, Utah. They were good dancers and enjoyed ballroom and square dancing.
Wayne enjoyed fishing. Ruby found if she was going to share his life she had to learn to fish. She became a good fisherman and they spent many enjoyable hours sharing that interest.
They had a summer home in Island Park for 23 years and spent many many days enjoying the country and fishing the streams and lakes in the area.
Wayne sold cars for Smith Chevrolet in Idaho Falls, Idaho for many years. He was considered a trustworthy salesman and had many return customers.
Wayne was the salesman of the month many months.
Wayne and Ruby had one child, J?Wayne. When Wayne retired he and Ruby traveled around the western states selling books their son had written. Wayne was as good a book salesman as he was car salesman.
They spent their winters in Quartzite, Arizona where they had a nice winter home for 24 years.
While there Wayne was a counselor to the president in the LDS branch. They enjoyed their friends and the outings in the desert.
As they became less independent their son moved them to Logan where he could be of more help. When J?Wayne moved to Whitney, Idaho he moved them to Preston in a nice condo east of West Motor.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 75 years, Ruby, his son J?Wayne, four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren and another on the way. Funeral services will be held Monday, June 14, 2010 at 12 noon in the Smithfield LDS Ward Chapel located at 345 East 300 South, Smithfield. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 South Main, Smithfield and also from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com .
