Kenneth Gene Volkman

June 30, 1953 — September 12, 2010

Kenneth Gene Volkman, 57, returned home to be with his beloved daughter, Kaylee, on September 12, 2010. He died from injuries sustained from a fall at his home. Ken was born June 30, 1953, in Lexington, Nebraska, to Gene and Betty Wolfe Volkman. He married Beverly Denton on June 30, 1981, later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on April 17, 2004. Ken is survived by his wife, Beverly, sons Chase Dawn Cooper, Trevor Leilani Daines, and Zachary. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kaylee Ann, his father, Gene, and a brother-in-law Kenneth Wolf. He is also survived by his mother, Betty W. and a brother David Kathy and sisters Jeanette Wolf and Darla Lamont Schlake, parents-in-law Leon and Marion Denton, sisters- and brothers-in-law Audrie Gordon Goldsberry, Donna Chris Conner, Steven Cathy Denton, Helen Jeff Jeppsen, and Gary Roxie Denton, and many other cousins, nieces, and nephews. Ken was raised on a farm and at a tender age learned the value of hard work and has maintained that work ethic throughout his life. Ken proudly served his country in the Utah Army National Guard Special Forces unit as a Green Beret and retired as a major after 20 years of service. For the past 10 years he has enjoyed running his own business as a landscape architect. Ken enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting with his family. Ken loved people and would drop everything at a moment?s notice to help anyone in need. He was deeply devoted to his family and his faith. Though the loss of his precious ?Anner? Kaylee left an indelible wound in his heart, he never lost his sense of humor. He had a genuine gift of gab and always got the last word, which was his way of letting you know you were a friend for life. Ken will never be far away, because his resounding voice and gentle laughter will linger in our minds and in our hearts forever. Memorial services will be held Monday, September 20, at the Smithfield North Stake Center, 155 West 400 North at noon with Bishop Glade Smith conducting. Friends may call on Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Nelson Funeral Home in Smithfield 88 South Main Street and at the Smithfield North Stake Center on Monday from 10:30-11:30 am prior to services.
