Lloyd P. Firth

Tremonton-Lloyd P. Firth, 67, died May 13, 2011, after a courageous battle with colon cancer. Lloyd was born Dec. 14, 1943, in Tremonton, UT, to Dean Albert and Winnie Payne Firth. He grew up on the family dairy farm in Bothwell, UT. He attended Bothwell Elementary, Bear River Junior High, and graduated from Bear River High School with his class in 1962. In high school Lloyd was active in FFA, which gave him the opportunity to attend several out-of-state conventions. He was able to travel to Minneapolis, MN, and Kansas City, MO and for a farm boy those were exciting experiences.
Lloyd was called to serve as an LDS Missionary in the Northeast British Mission. Upon returning he attended Utah State University. During the Vietnam crisis, Lloyd was drafted into the United States Army spending one year in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal, and received an honorable discharge.
Lloyd married Waylene Bishop on June 14, 1968, in the Logan LDS Temple.
In 1977, Lloyd graduated from Utah Stated University with a degree in Elementary Education. He taught school for 27 years, in several schools in Box Elder County. During that time he purchased the family farm and kept busy milking, farming, and teaching school.
Lloyd was active in the LDS church serving as ward clerk in two bishoprics and held various other positions. In 2006 Lloyd and Waylene served a one-year Family History Mission in St. George, UT. Lloyd is survived by his wife, Waylene Bishop Firth; daughters, Ashley Firth, Salt Lake City, Kimberly CJ Roberts, Elwood, and Adrianne Craig Sleight, Oakton, VA. He is also survived by brothers Brent Janet Firth and Curtis Sheryl Firth; one sister, Deann Firth and sister-in-law, Kay Firth. His pride and joy were his nine grandchildren, Keaton, Kennedy, Klayson, Olivia, Elizabeth, Ryan, Andrew, Jayden, and Lucas. Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, his twin brother, Boyd, and his only son, Nathan Lloyd. The family would like to thank Intermountain Hospice Care for making Lloyd's last days pleasant and comfortable, and special thanks is extended to family and friends for their love and support.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Tremonton Stake Center, 660 North 300 East, Tremonton. Friends may call Tuesday, May 17, 2011, 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Rogers and Taylor Funeral Home, 111 North 100 East, Tremonton, and Wednesday from 9:30-10:40 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral services. Interment will follow in the Bothwell Valley View Cemetery where military honors will be accorded.
