Lois Hancey Ballard

Lois Hancey Ballard passed away Thursday, September 10, 2009 at the Logan Regional Hospital following a short illness. She was born September 30, 1926 in Hyde Park, Utah to Leander and Florence Reeder Hancey. Lois was blessed to grow up in Hyde Park with a large, loving family of wonderful parents, and four sisters and five brothers who were not only family but great friends. She attended school in Hyde Park and Richmond, graduating from North Cache High School in 1944. She married M. Landell Ballard on January 27, 1945 in Benton, Arkansas where he was stationed in the Army. In 1951 they were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple. They made their home in Benson on the family farm for over fifty years where they raised their 4 children, Lanny Colleen, Tony, Ann Lex Low, and Cathy George Fox. Lois was an outgoing person who loved people and had many, many friends. She liked visiting with people, playing, and enjoying life. She was caring, generous, and compassionate and had a fun sense of humor. She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She loved serving in the church and faithfully fulfilled many callings. Whether it was teacher, counselor, auxiliary president, librarian, or visiting teacher she served willingly and lovingly. Her interests included sewing, quilting, crossword puzzles, reading, attending plays and performances, Aggie basketball, riding motorcycles, and eating chocolates. Her guilty pleasures were trips to Wendover, soda pop for breakfast and sleeping in. Lois was blessed to be able to be a stay at home wife and mother while her four children were young. When they got older her job history included newborn nursery aide at Logan LDS hospital, store clerk, and for many years secretary to the librarian at USU. She and Landell enjoyed horse riding and snowmobiling. After their children were grown they spent untold hours traveling the country on their Harley Davidson motorcycles. Lois moved to Logan in 1995 where she met many more new friends and came to love her new neighbors and her ward family.
