Louise Lindorf Kemeny Silver

May 6, 1946 — September 2, 2022

Our dear mother, grandmother, sister, and friend Louise Lindorf Kemeny Silver passed away Friday September 2, 2022, surrounded by her loving daughters.

Born May 6, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, to Roy and Myla Lindorf, Louise was the second of seven children. Louise was an adventurous and free-spirited child: as a toddler she once snuck outside in the early morning hours and rode her tricycle around the block stark naked, and when she was not much older, she wanted “to help make her younger sister look beautiful” and cut off all her ringlet curls!

This bold spirit followed Louise throughout her life. She was always strong in her convictions and strived to be an advocate for the vulnerable. The teachings of the Sermon on the Mount were very important to her, and she lived her life by these principles. She was generous with her time and in gift-giving. Louise’s love language was service. Even while in the hospital, when she herself was very sick, Louise offered to help take care of the other patients. Her life was defined by hard work, service, and lifelong learning.

An extremely intelligent and gifted student, Louise graduated in 1969 from The University of California, Irvine, where she studied French. She took a break from her studies to serve a mission in Montreal, Quebec, for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, of which she was a devoted, life-long member. Louise continued her education at Brigham Young University, where she received her teaching credentials. While at BYU, Louise met her first husband, John Kemeny. Their marriage gave Louise her five daughters, whom she lovingly called her “chickadees.”

Louise was a teacher by profession, and also by passion. She was an avid researcher and learner and relished sharing her knowledge with others, whether they wanted to hear it or not. As both a mother and grandmother, she delighted in making learning fun through experiences such as music school, nature center visits, countless trips to the library, Girl Scouts, Vacation Bible School, and sewing, typing, and swimming lessons. Louise was always reading at least three books at a time. She enjoyed taking community continuing education classes and auditing University level classes, and especially loved learning about other cultures, religions, and languages.

Later in life, Louise married her longtime friend Dennis Silver. Together they enjoyed many years of companionship, working together and discussing nerdy things. After Dennis’ death, Louise served a senior LDS mission, enthusiastically giving her time to work in the Family History Library.

Louise loved gardening, filling her yards with daffodils, lilacs, fruits, vegetables, as well as healing herbs and berries, especially comfrey and elderberries. She was always chasing sunshine and adventure, and loved hiking and camping, swimming, and road trips with her daughters.

Everyone who knew Louise, knew that she marched to the beat of her own drum. She was her own person and was proud of it. We will all miss her dearly.

Louise is survived by her daughters Myla (Soren), Christina (Roger), Suzy (Matt), Julie (Aaron), and Catherine (James), and her ten grandchildren. She is also survived by five of her siblings - Paul (Kristene), Betty (Marc), Laura (Lynn), Ron (Terri), and Barbara (Harry) - and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Dennis Silver, her parents Roy and Myla Lindorf, and her older brother, Bruce Lindorf.

Louise will be laid to rest at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 10, 2022, at the 4th Ward Meetinghouse at 360 West 3200 South in Nibley, Utah.
