Eva Marlene Adams Thorpe Baldwin a.k.a “Munner” passed away surrounded by her family on January 27th, 2018 at the age of 85. Marlene was born on March 3rd, 1932 in Macon, Georgia, the only daughter of Sherwood Wesley and Emily Massey Adams. She had one brother, Bennett Wesley Adams. She attended school in Macon and after graduation, she trained to be a lab technician. On December 7th, 1957, she married the love of her life - DeLoy A. Thorpe. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS temple on December 29th, 1969. DeLoy was in the U.S. Air Force, so they journeyed all over the world together. The lived in Georgia, Japan, Tennessee, Arkansas, Texas, and then finally settled in Smithfield, UT in 1975. After many wonderful years with DeLoy, he passed away in 1991. She later married Bart Baldwin in 1994, and they lived in both Utah and Arizona together; switching back and forth depending on where the weather was best. She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her husband DeLoy Thorpe, and her husband Bart Baldwin. She loved the gospel of Jesus Christ, and served in many callings in the LDS Church. She was Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society president. She also spent many years regularly attending the temple with her “ladies”, and shared her testimony with her loved ones every chance she got. She is survived by her children Lyn Wright (Joe Wright), Diana Peterson (Brian Peterson), Tracey Ricks (Craig Ricks) and Brad Thorpe (Shauna Thorpe). Marlene has 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She loved having her family around, and was always everyone’s listening ear when they needed one. She was a shining example of grace, unconditional love and kindness. She was a faithful fan of the Utah Jazz, and was cheering them on until her last day. Marlene loved being in the sun and spending time outdoors. She always had her whole family over for Sunday dinner every week, and made her signature dish of chicken and dumplings with black-eyed peas very often. Munner had a way of making everyone feel like they were her favorite. Friends may visit the family Thursday, February 1st from 6-8pm at the Nelson Funeral Home (85 S. Main St. Smithfield, UT 84335) and Friday, February 2nd from 10:30-11:30am at the Smithfield 7th ward LDS chapel (79 E. 200 S. Smithfield, UT 84335). A funeral service will follow at that same location at 12:00pm. Burial will be at the Smithfield Cemetery following the funeral. Marlene’s family would like to thank Maple Springs Senior Living, Sunshine Hospice, and Dr. Bradley Chambers for their compassion, kindness, and loving care. In lieu of flowers, Munner would love for you to do something with your family. Take them to dinner, go to a Jazz game, or just spend time together, because family is what mattered most to her.
