Marlin Kay Gittins

Marlin Kay Gittins, 72, passed away April 14, 2012, at Logan Regional Hospital, in Logan, Utah
Marlin was born November 5, 1939, in Smithfield, to Robert Eugene and Elizabeth Libbie Riggs Stoddard Gittins. He was the second of four children. Marlin grew up in Smithfield.
Marlin was very active in 4-H as a youth. He won a State tractor driving and also a log sawing contest for two years in a row. Marlin graduated from North Cache High School in 1957.
Marlin married his sweetheart, Linda Timmins, on July 23, 1958 in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They were married almost 54 years. They had four sons and two daughters.
Marlin was active in the L.D.S. church, where he served in various positions. He served as Executive Secretary, Scout Master for seven years, Ward Mission Leader, and Stake Mission President.
Marlin was a member of the Smithfield Lions Club until his stroke in 1996. He was President for two years and ran for District Governor twice. He was also Foreign Exchange Chairman. He and Linda had the opportunity to deliver donated eyes to Perry, Utah, to the Highway Patrol, who then delivered them to the Salt Lake Hospital.
Marlin worked for E.A. Miller, in Hyrum, driving truck, for many years. Marlin and Linda owned and operated L & M Catering for about five years, until Marlins health deteriorated and they had to sell the business. Linda has lovingly taken care of Marlin for over 15 years since he had his stroke.
He is survived by his wife, Linda and six children, Linn Jeannie deceased Gittins of Hyrum, Mark Margot Gittins of Warrenton, Oregon, David Lesia Gittins of Aniak, Alaska, Helen Hincks of Smithfield, Chris Debbie Gittins of Honeyville, and Alison Josh Vaughan of Twin Falls, Idaho; 21 grandchildren , 22 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-grandchild, his mother, two brothers and their wives. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, one sister, Nelda, and a daughter-in-law, Jeannie.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 16, in the Smithfield 1st Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South, Smithfield, with Bishop Steven Olsen conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main, Smithfield, and from 11:30 to 12:30 Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
