Merlin H Larsen

April 7, 1916 — April 29, 2009

PROMONTORY - Merlin H Larsen, 93 of Promontory, UT passed away April 29, 2009 with his loved ones by his side. He was born April 7, 1916 in Thatcher, UT to Hans Ethelbert and Sophronia Johnson Larsen. He married Clara Helen Petersen March 25, 1938. She died January 15, 1953. He married Wanda Sorensen Christensen June 1, 1954. She died November 26, 1986. He married Doris Wells Flint February 22, 1987. He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1933.
Merlin loved to hunt, fish, travel and received most of his enjoyment farming. As a young man he broke up the sagebrush, worked the ground and planted and raised the crops on the Promontory farm. For good times he attended many dances and enjoyed rounding up, breaking, racing and selling the wild horses on the Promontory range and places further west. In later years he learned that a 4 wheeler was more convenient than a horse and spent time nearly every day riding the flat lands and the mountains observing his handiwork on dikes and guzzlers for the waterfowl and other wild animals and always trying to get green things to grow in the desert. He was still plowing and planting less than a week before his death.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Promontory Branch President for 17 years and served as the Sunday School Superintendent prior to that. He held many other positions in both Promontory and Thatcher and has been one of the most dedicated Home Teachers.
He always made everyone?s life more important that his own and consistently gave more than he received. He will be greatly missed here, but warmly welcomed on the other side by many.
He is survived by his Wife, Doris W. Larsen, Children: Pamala Hess Hal, Tamara Rogers Dave, Nanette Mecham Blaine, Steven H Larsen Mary, Tessa Breier Jerry, William ?Billy? Flint Paulina, Brent H Larsen Carol; 41 Grandchildren, 82 Great-grandchildren, 16.5 Great-great-grandchildren and Siblings: Lorna Phillips Jennings and Neal H Larsen Ruth and Son-in-law Richard Protich.
