Roberta Nilson Geary

January 30, 1922 — August 5, 2011

Living unwaveringly independent to the end, Roberta Nilson Geary, 89, was released from Earth-life August 5, 2011 at McKay-Dee Hospital, Ogden, Utah. Roberta was born January 30, 1922 in Logan, Utah, the daughter of Edgar and Bessie Pickett Nilson. She made the same house her home for over 58 years and was a life-long resident of Smithfield. Roberta married Dee James Geary April 28, 1943 in the Logan LDS temple. Dee passed away in 1995.
Graduating from North Cache High School, Roberta worked at Commercial National Bank later First Security Bank in Smithfield until her children were born.
As a member of the LDS Church, Roberta fulfilled many callings including YW President, temple officiator, recording shorthand and transcribing Patriarchal blessings, Counselor in Stake Primary, Counselor in Stake Relief Society, Ward Relief Society President, and Stake Relief Society President in the Smithfield and Smithfield North Stakes. Roberta was also very active in Smithfield community as Summit and then North Cache District PTA President, President of the Smithfield Genealogical Society, and a member of several clubs. She also tediously labored as Committee Chair to write the book Smithfield: City On A Hill. She was honored as Smithfield Citizen of the Year in 1998.
Roberta is the proud mother of four children: Dennis Theresa, Smithfield; Ellen Larry Nelson, Smithfield; Clair Coleen Preston; Lyle Lynne, Smithfield and adores her 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Roberta was preceded in death by her husband Dee, her parents, sister RaNae Jorgensen, brothers Clyde and Clayne Nilson and grandson Tanner Safavi.
