Stanley Nate of Hyrum passed away at Legacy House in Logan Friday morning, February 8, 3 days shy of his 91st birthday. Stan was born in Dingle, Idaho on February 11, 1922, to Cornell Walton Nate and Alice Grimmett Sparks. He was delivered by his grandmother while his father went to town to get the doctor. He was the fifth of six children. Stan's school days were all spent in Cokeville, Wyoming, where he graduated in 1940. He was well known for picking fights and then letting his two older brothers do the fighting. Dad married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Fern Langford, on May 17, 1941, at the court house in Randolph, Utah, with his mother and oldest sister as witnesses. After the brief ceremony Stan went home with his mother and Fern returned to her parent's home. It was several days before she told her folks of the marriage. Her father offered her $1000.00 to have the marriage annulled but she refused and our folks would of celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary this May. Stan spent his life as a rancher, running a dairy, carpenter and school bus driver. In 1971 mom and dad moved from Cokeville to Hyrum and dad began working for USU Housing. After having a heart attack he took a medical retirement at the age of 59. The folks were temple workers for 7 years and enjoyed every minute of it. Dad loved spending time with his family, working with horses and sports. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Leon, Orson and Gerald; and, sisters Zell Nate Robison and Jane Nate Richards; one daughter, Garnett Nate James, granddaughter-in-law, Zoe Nuttal Nate, and great- granddaughter Lexi Keyte Henriksen. Stan is survived by his wife Fern, children Lucille Layland of Logan, Cornell Susan Nate of Stansbury Park, Utah; Colleen Nate of Logan; Keith Lynnette Nate of Cokeville, Wyoming, Kent Jane Nate of Salt Lake City, Utah and son-in-law Alan Bonnie James of Logan. He has 19 grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren with 2 more on the way, and 3 great- great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 11 am at Hyrum 2nd Ward Chapel, 455 East 100 South in Hyrum. There will be a viewing Tuesday evening from 6:30 to 8 pm at Nelson Funeral Home in Logan, and also Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the ward building in Hyrum. Burial will be in the Cokeville, Wyoming, Cemetery at approximately 3:30 p.m.
