Susan Erickson Hansen

May 13, 1958 — April 22, 2011

Susan Erickson Hansen passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2011 after a long and valiant struggle with severe rheumatoid arthritis. Susan was born May 13, 1958 to William Noble and Ila Mae Erickson in Logan, Utah. She was the second of oldest of five children. She graduated from Sky View High School in 1976 and Ricks College in 1978. She served an LDS mission to the Argentine-Cordova mission in 1979 and loved the people, especially their beautiful children. Susan and David met in the Smithfield 11th Ward, a young single adult ward. They were married August 26, 1983 in the Logan LDS Temple, a goal Susan had always cherished. Together they lived in Logan, North Logan and currently in Hyde Park. They loved serving in the church and attending the temple making many dear friends. After several years of anxious waiting they welcomed the birth of their daughter Melissa on February 18, 1988. Susan's life was full of love for her husband and daughter. She enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. Her piano music filled their home and provided opportunities to sing together. She loved crafts of all types and was very creative. She tole painted many items that decorate their home and were shared with many family and friends. She loved Christmas and made a special Christmas ornament each year. These were shared with family, friends and many individuals at Utah State as favors related to Dave's work. She enjoyed collecting recipes and cooking them. But her homemade candy was the very best. The cherry chocolates she made, traditionally once a year, were luscious. Her penmanship was beautiful, her calligraphy delicate, which she often used with homemade cards and notes. Susan had a life-long belief in extended family organizations. She loved genealogy especially collecting written family histories, books of remembrance and record keeping. She helped plan many family reunions and found joy in those associations. Susan was a quiet, calm and serene individual who cherished relationships with others. Her tenderness towards her daughter, her unwavering faith in God and exactness in keeping His commandments will forever be her enduring traits. She taught as she lived - most often by example followed by softly spoken words. She is survived by her husband David; her daughter Melissa; parents William Noble and Ila Mae Erickson of Smithfield, four brothers, a sister and their spouses: Kent and LuAnn Erickson of Mapleton, Utah; Alan and Denise Erickson of Washougal, Washington; David and Callie Erickson of Smithfield, Utah; Julie and Scott Farner of Hyde Park, Utah; Kevin and Morgan Erickson of Nibley, Utah, plus many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her parents-in-law Gilbert and Martha Hansen of Smithfield, Utah, and her two sister-in-laws Janalee Hansen of Centerville, Utah and Jerilyn Hansen of Nibley, Utah. Special thanks to Dr. John Mijer and his nurse Cheryl Allsop at McKay Dee Hospital and Dr. Michael Stones both of whom combined compassionate caregiving with friendship for the past 20 years of Susan's life. Also to Alpine Hospice for the comfort and peace given to her and the family in her final week of life. A viewing will be held Monday, April 25, 2011 from 6pm-8pm at Nelson Funeral Home 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah and Tuesday April 26, 2011 from 10:30am – 11:30am at the Hyde Park LDS Stake Center 535 East 200 South.
