Ted Nielson

January 23, 1922 — March 20, 2009

Ted H. Nielson, 87, passed away peacefully in Logan UT. March 20, 2009 surrounded by family members. Ted was born January 23, 1922, the fifth of eight children, to Joseph Wiley Nielson and Deloa Hansen Nielson at Lockerby-San Juan Co, UT. He grew up in southern Utah helping on the farm. His family moved to Moab UT for the kids to go to High School. After Graduating he and a friend worked in a ammunition plant in Nevada, After which they volunteered for military duty in 1942. He served in the infantry unit fighting with the 5th army in North Africa and Italy until released in 1943. Upon his return from the war he farmed east of Monticello. He met and married Erma Andersen of Moab UT, on January 15, 1948. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Ted was an active member in the LDS Church, holding many positions, such as, counselor in branch presidency, scout master and many others. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping with sons, grandsons, and friends. He also spent time around the campfire with Loved ones. He is Survived by his wife, sons, and daughters: Ted R. -Grizz- Nielson, Richmond; Susan Allen Law, Cornish; Karen Paul Chaplinsky Raymond, Connecticut; Becky Gordon Clawson, Hyrum; Casey Beth Nielson, Etna WY; Tamra David Fuller, Las Vegas, NV; 22 Grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Two Brothers, Stanley Dorlyn of Clawson UT, Clay Elaine of Smithfield UT, One sister, Desie Oviatt, Huntington UT, one sister-in-law Irene Nielson, Nampa ID. He was preceded in death by one son, David Clyde Nielson, his parents, two brothers, two sisters, one brother-in-law, and one sister-in-law. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 25 at 12: noon at the 11th ward chapel, 79E. 200S. Smithfield UT. Viewings will be held Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 6-8pm at Nelson Funeral Home, 85S. Main, Smithfield and from 10:30-11:30 am prior to services at the church. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com
