Thelma Langford Freeman

Thelma Langford Freeman, passed on to join her beloved husband and many other family members on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. She was 3 months shy of her 107th Birthday.
Thelma was born on April 23, 1903 in Garden City, Utah to George and Celia Pope Langford. She lived her youth on the shores of beautiful Bear Lake with her four Sisters, Lutheria, Iva, Pearl, and Virginia all deceased. She also had one Sister and one brother who died in infancy. At 17 years of age she moved to Montpelier, Idaho to attend high school and was lateremployed as head cashier for the Union Pacific Railroad. At this time she met Marion Grant
Freeman and they were married on May 9, 1923 in the Salt Lake Temple by Marion's Uncle, Pres. Heber J. Grant.
Thelma and Marion spent the first three years of their married life with her parents and her sister Pearl and her husband and her sister Virginia in Colorado mining iron ore and copper at their family mines. They built a nice log home large enough for all of them and full of beautiful furniture they made out of small quaking aspen; it was very unique. They have lived in Laramie, Wyoming, Garden City, Bennion, Layton, Logan in Utah and Mesa, Arizona. While living in Garden City they managed and operated the Conoco service station and grocery store for many years. They then moved to Logan where they managed a neighborhood grocery store. After Marion retired they spent winters in Mesa, Arizona and summers in Utah. In Mesa they spent many hours doing temple work in the daytime and dancing at night. They loved to dance. They were married 61 years. He preceded her in death in l984. At the age of 62 Thelma took up the art of oil painting. She painted many beautiful landscapes for her family and friends. She served in various church positions. She was Primary President in Bennion, Relief Society President in Laramie and served as a Visiting Teacher for many years. She was a very good cook and an excellent pie maker. Marion and Thelma are the parents of 3 sons: Grant MarJean, Roy deceased, DinnaDana and Kay Gaye. She has 13 living Grandchildren, and one deceased, 45 Great Grandchildren and 27 Great-Great Grandchildren. They loved to hear her tell about her life experiences; she had a wonderful memory and could recall the little interesting details. She also had many Nieces and Nephews that loved visiting with her. Sunshine Terrace has been her home for the last ten plus years. She has had many excellent care givers over the years. The family wishes to offer appreciation for the great loving care extended through the years.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, Utah. The viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. prior to services.
