Thomas Oscar Baird

November 21, 1926 — September 30, 2012

Thomas Oscar Baird was born Nov. 21, 1926 to Richard and Mary Susan Bailey Baird in Rupert, Idaho. He passed away Sunday Sept. 30 at McKay Dee Hospital in Ogden, UT with his family by his side. He was raised on a farm in Paul, Idaho. Dad was the fifth of seven children.
At 17 he joined the Navy and served as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class. He was assigned to the San Diego Naval Hospital and later attached to the Marine Corp. He served on the USS Dayton Cruiser Light Class. Dad liked to talk about his time in the service and was proud to serve his country.
Dad married Rayda Harrison in the Idaho Falls temple on Dec. 3, 1948. They raised 6 children.
He graduated from Utah State University in 1954. In 1958 he earned his teaching credentials in industrial arts. In 1959 he started teaching at South Cache High School. Then he taught at Sky View High School until he retired in 1987. He was a well-liked teacher and loved it when students recognized and stopped to visit.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He helped establish the Cub Scout program in the Mt. Logan Stake. He served in Scouting for many years. He served in many positions including stake clerk and high councilman. Dad and Mom served in the Logan Temple for two years.
He is survived by his wife, five children- Keith EdithFenton, a daughter –in-law Pat Fenton Anderson, Terrilee John Clark, Larry Baird, Coral Larson & Laurie Jon Hardman, 29 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 6 great-great-grandchildren, one brother Robert Baird and one sister Vernetta Woodbury.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, his son Ronald Fenton and a granddaughter Amy Hardman.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm Friday Oct. 5 at the River Heights Stake Center, 800 South 600 East. Friends may call from 6-8pm Thursday Oct. 4 at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162, E 400 N Logan, and from 10:30-11:30 Friday prior to services at the church. Interment will be at the Providence City Cemetery.
