Veral Nilson Ballard

Veral Nilson Ballard passed away March 21, 2009 in Logan, Utah. She was 89. She was born February 20, 1920 in Smithfield, Utah to Parley Franklin Nilson and Rose Annie Milligan. She was the third of nine children. She grew up in Smithfield and went to Summit Elementary School, Smithfield Jr. High School and graduated from North Cache High School. She attended Utah State University on a 4-H scholarship. She worked at the Utah Poultry in Logan. In 1943, she married Kenneth Ballard in the Logan Temple and they made their home in Benson, Utah. She and Kenneth built their home in Benson, where they lived for 66 years. She was a wonderful homemaker and excellent cook. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Ferrin, Bob, Mark, Randall and sister Delone. She is survived by her husband Kenneth; children: Pauline Ferris Hatch of Kennewick, Washington; Dale of Kennewick, Washington; Joyce Dave Keeley of Meridian, Idaho; Todd Norene of Benson, Utah; sisters: Jean Perkes of Mapleton, Utah; Margaret Hendrikson of Bountiful, Utah; and brother Kay Nilson of West Jordan, Utah. She has 24 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many capacities. She served as compassionate service leader for many years in the Relief Society organization. She and Kenneth served as ordinance workers in the Logan Temple for 16 years. She was a visiting teacher for 60 years. The family would like to thank the many health care givers that have been so kind and taken such good care of Veral over the recent years. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009 in the Benson Chapel, 3432 North 3000 West, Benson. Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
