Wayne Rulon Jones

Wayne Rulon Jones, loving husband, father and grandpa, passed away on October 28, 2011 surrounded by his wife and 3 children. Heartfelt thanks go out to the kind hospice workers who took care of Wayne. There will be services on Thursday, November 3, 2011 at the Smithfield 17th Ward Chapel, 345 East 300 South, Smithfield. Viewing from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., services will follow at 12 noon. He was born September 16, 1951 in Delta, Utah. He was pre-deceased by his mother, Ruth Erickson Jones from Smithfield, Utah and his father Jefferson Rulon Jones from Delta, Utah. Wayne served in the England East Mission. After his mission he received his associate degree from Rick College, then went on to receive his master's degree in Special Education from BYU. He taught Special Education in Cache Valley for 25 years. At BYU he met his wife and best friend, Judy. They married on April 19, 1975 in the Manti Temple. Wayne loved the outdoors. He loved to backpack, camp in the wilderness, hunt, and fish. Running was also a passion of his averaging 3 marathons a year. Some of Wayne's service in the LDS Church included Scout Master, Young Men's President, Elder's Quorum President and First Councilor in the Smithfield 17th Ward. He is survived by his wife, Judy, sons, Ian and Skylar and daughter, Callie. Siblings include Tammy Simmons, Carolyn Schwab, and Garth Jones. Wayne has 5 grandchildren; Ty, Alyson, Kaden, Chloe, and Kylie. Burial will be in the Smithfield Cemetery under the direction of Nelson Funeral Home. Many thanks for all the Cache Valley friends that came forward at our time of need. Above all else Wayne loved being a husband, father and grandfather. He was loving, kind, and a shining example of patience and optimism.
