Zenda Orstrom Savagae
August 16, 1924 — June 6, 2012
Our wonderful mother and grandmother, Zenda Orstrom Savage, 87, passed away surrounded by her family on June 6, 2012 at Sunshine Terrace in Logan, Utah.
She was born August 16, 1924 in Menan, Idaho to France Oscar Orstrom and Nora Green the second of three children. She had a very happy childhood and youth surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Her older brother was her best friend, watching over her and including her in any of his activities. At the age of 18, Zenda moved to Ogden where she was a civilian employee at Hill Air Force Base, then, transferred to Spokane, Washington for the remainder of the war.
While there, she met her husband, Bert O. Savage, who was serving in the Navy, stationed at Farragut Naval Station in Idaho. They were married on February 19, 1946 in the Idaho Falls Temple, making their home in Hyrum and raised a family of six children. She lived there for 54 years.
Zenda served in many church callings and magnified each one with her special touch. Her life revolved around her family taking every opportunity to have fun together. She was the best cook ever! Her butterscotch brownies, strawberry pie, potato salad and soda cracker pie were legendary. Gardening was her life sustaining hobby gaining great satisfaction from her work. Daylight hours were spent weeding, watering, moving rocks, and loving the flowers she planted.
Zenda is survived by her children, Mylan Laura, deceased Savage, Ogden, UT; Corey Mary Savage; Jill Derrel, deceased Leach, Hyrum, UT; Jana Daurell Bell, Anchorage, AK; Todd Renee Savage, Hyde Park, UT; Lesa Don Miller, No. Ogden, UT; 28 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, her parents, brother and sister, daughter-in-law, Laura and son-in-law, Derrel, and four grand babies.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Sunshine Terrace Memory Lane for the kind and loving care of their mother for the past 3 ½ years and the staff at Legacy House Logan for six years.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 11, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Hyrum North Stake Center, 245 North 750 East, Hyrum. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan and at the church on Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Hyrum City Cemetery.
