Altagracia Barbara Sobeya Vargas

Con gran pesar anunciamos el fallecimiento de nuestra amada madre y abuela, Altagracia Bárbara Sobeya Vargas, quien falleció el 20 de mayo de 2026 en Smithfield, Utah, a la edad de 76 años, luego de una larga y valiente lucha contra la enfermedad renal y la demencia.

Nació en Santo Domingo, República Dominicana, el 4 de diciembre de 1949, hija de Natividad Antonia Vargas y Jobito Evins Burgos. Vivió su niñez y juventud en la República Dominicana.

De orígenes humildes, motivada por el ejemplo y sacrificio de su madre y por el amor hacia su hijo Diomedes, logró completar su carrera como Licenciada en Tecnología Médica (Bioanalista), graduándose en 1977. Luego de graduarse, residió por algunos años en Venezuela antes de establecer su hogar en Puerto Rico, donde vivió por más de 40 años, formando allí gran parte de su vida, su familia y su servicio al Señor. Ejerció su profesión con amor, vocación y sacrificio durante más de 30 años, alcanzando una gran superación tanto personal como profesional.

Nuestra madre fue una mujer extraordinaria: inteligente, carismática, trabajadora, generosa y profundamente llena de fe. Dedicó su vida al servicio de los demás y al cuidado de su familia. Su mayor amor fue su familia, en especial su madre, sus hijos y sus nietos, quienes eran el centro de su vida.

Era el tipo de persona que siempre ayudaba a todos. Abrió su corazón y su hogar libremente, y muchas personas recuerdan su bondad a través de su deliciosa comida en las actividades de la iglesia, sus palabras de consuelo y el amor que brindaba de manera tan natural.

Fiel miembro de La Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Últimos Días, dedicó muchos años de su vida al servicio en la iglesia, predicando el evangelio e invitando a todos a venir a Cristo con valentía y perseverancia. Amó profundamente la obra de historia familiar y sirvió con esmero en su llamamiento como directora de indexación y arbitraje de la Estaca San Juan Puerto Rico. Su fe la sostuvo en cada etapa de su vida y se convirtió en una fuente de fortaleza, esperanza y amor no solo para ella, sino también para todos los que la rodeaban.

Encontraba alegría en la jardinería, la cocina, las compras, la lectura, el bordado en punto de cruz, la decoración de interiores y, sobre todo, en pasar tiempo valioso con su familia. Tenía una hermosa manera de hacer que las personas se sintieran bienvenidas, cuidadas y amadas.

Le sobreviven sus hijos: Diomedes R. Rodriguez Vargas (Nélida Acevedo), Antonio D. Giuliante Vargas, Natividad A. Rodriguez Vargas, Fransheska R. Vega Vargas (Braden Butler) y Waleishka R. Vega Vargas (Abdel Gonzalez), Adrianna Vega.

También deja a sus 15 queridos nietos: Paula K. Rodriguez, Diomedes M. Rodriguez, Joshua A. Giuliante, Hyrum A. Giuliante, Brandon A. Giuliante, Allison J. Giuliante, Nathan Giuliante, Katalea Giuliante, Amelia G. Butler, Neyland S. Butler, Dylan W. González, Ezra B. González, Jade E. Gonzalez, Eren W. Gonzalez y Zayd E. Gonzalez.

Aunque nuestros corazones están destrozados, encontramos paz al saber que vivió una vida llena de amor, fe, servicio y devoción. Su ejemplo, su fortaleza y su amor incondicional permanecerán con nosotros para siempre.

La extrañaremos profundamente todos y cada uno de los días, pero encontramos consuelo en nuestra fe y en la promesa de que las familias son eternas, y que algún día volveremos a reunirnos con ella.

Expresamos también un especial agradecimiento al personal del centro de diálisis Intermountain Logan Regional por el cuidado, la compasión y el cariño que le brindaron durante su enfermedad.

With great sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Altagracia Bárbara Sobeya Vargas, who passed away on May 20, 2026, in Smithfield, Utah, at the age of 76, after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease and dementia.

She was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on December 4, 1949, daughter of Natividad Antonia Vargas and Jobito Evins Burgos. She spent her childhood and youth in the Dominican Republic. Coming from humble beginnings, and inspired by the example and sacrifices of her mother, as well as her love for her son Diomedes, she completed her degree in medical laboratory science, graduating in 1977.

After graduating, she lived for several years in Venezuela before establishing her home in Puerto Rico, where she lived for more than 40 years, building much of her life, her family, and her service to the Lord.

She practiced her profession with love, dedication, and sacrifice for more than 30 years, achieving great personal and professional growth.

Our mother was an extraordinary woman: intelligent, charismatic, hardworking, generous, and deeply faithful. She dedicated her life to serving others and caring for her family. Her greatest love was her family, especially her mother, children, and grandchildren, who were the center of her life.

She was the kind of person who was always helping others. She opened her heart and home freely, and many people remember her kindness through her delicious food at church activities, her comforting words, and the love she gave so naturally.

As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she dedicated many years of her life to serving in the Church, preaching the gospel, and inviting all to come unto Christ with courage and perseverance. She deeply loved family history work and faithfully served in her calling as Director of Indexing and Arbitration for the San Juan Puerto Rico Stake. Her faith sustained her through every stage of life and became a source of strength, hope, and love not only for her, but for everyone around her.

She found joy in gardening, cooking, shopping, reading, cross-stitch embroidery, interior decorating, and above all, spending precious time with her family. She had a beautiful way of making people feel welcomed, cared for, and loved.

She is survived by her children: Diomedes R. Rodriguez Vargas (Nélida Acevedo), Antonio D. Giuliante Vargas, Natividad A. Rodriguez Vargas, Fransheska R. Vega Vargas (Braden Butler), Waleishka R. Vega Vargas (Abdel Gonzalez), and Adrianna Vega.

She also leaves behind her 15 beloved grandchildren: Paula K. Rodriguez, Diomedes M. Rodriguez, Joshua A. Giuliante, Hyrum A. Giuliante, Brandon A. Giuliante, Allison J. Giuliante, Nathan Giuliante, Katalea Giuliante, Amelia G. Butler, Neyland S. Butler, Dylan W. González, Ezra B. González, Jade E. Gonzalez, Eren W. Gonzalez, and Zayd E. Gonzalez.

Although our hearts are broken, we find peace in knowing that she lived a life full of love, faith, service, and devotion. Her example, strength, and unconditional love will remain with us forever.

We will miss her deeply every single day, but we find comfort in our faith and in the promise that families are eternal, and that one day we will be reunited with her again.

We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Intermountain Logan Regional Dialysis Center for the care, compassion, and kindness they showed her throughout her illness.
