Anne Hennefer Herzog, a devoted mother, grandmother, and tireless community servant, passed away on January 8, 2026. Born on February 23, 1941, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Jay Fisher Hennefer and Louise Russell Hennefer, Anne grew up with a love for the outdoors, splitting her time between the streets of Salt Lake and her relatives' family farm during the summers.
After graduating from Granite High School, she furthered her education by taking business classes at Stevens Henager College. Anne’s life took a significant turn during a trip to Logan, where she met DeLoy Herzog, who famously asked her out on their first date as part of a bet with his friends. This serendipitous encounter blossomed into a shared life filled with love; they married on April 27, 1962, and were later sealed in the Logan Temple on March 5, 1964.
Anne embodied a remarkable work ethic and a commitment to civic duty. She held various positions during her career, including roles at the IRS and Walton Feed, ultimately retiring from Schreiber Foods. However, her true legacy emerged through her extensive service in Newton. What began as a three-year term on the Newton Town Sprinkling Board transformed into over 30 years of dedicated service. A map of the town's pipelines hung prominently on her dining room wall, symbolizing her meticulous care for her community. She contributed her expertise to the Planning and Zoning Committee and devoted many years to serving as the ward librarian for her church.
Creatively inclined, Anne's hands were seldom idle. She excelled in needlework, mastering sewing, knitting, crocheting, and cross-stitch. Many friends and neighbors were fortunate recipients of her handmade booties, each crafted with love. Additionally, she supported DeLoy’s scouting endeavors, helping to guide numerous young men toward their Eagle Scout awards.
Above all, Anne found great joy in her role as a grandmother. She cherished moments spent with her grandchildren, knitting them sweaters and afghans while maintaining a deep involvement in their lives. An avid reader, she nurtured an enduring curiosity for the world around her.
Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband, DeLoy Herzog, as well as her parents, Jay Fisher Hennefer and Louise Russell. She is survived by her brother, Jay W. (Sam-Dal) Hennefer; her two sons, Andrew (JoLene) and Grant (Kristen); nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to honor Anne's memory is scheduled for January 14, 2026, at Logan City Cemetery in Logan, Utah. Family, friends, and all whose lives she touched are invited to celebrate her remarkable legacy. Anne will be remembered not only for her many contributions but also for her thoughtful spirit that prioritized the needs of others.
