David Sterling Cazier, age 65, passed away on July 3 in Logan, Utah.
David was born on February 8, 1960, in New York City, the long awaited eldest son of Stanford and Shirley Cazier. He spent his early childhood in Logan, Utah, before moving with his family to Chico, California in 1971. He was especially proud of the summer he spent working on a farm in Bancroft, Idaho when he was 15. David graduated from Chico High School in 1978 and then attended Brigham Young University for his freshman year. In 1979, the family returned to Logan, where David spent most of his adult life.
David had a brilliant mind and an artistic spirit. In his younger years, he was a gifted pianist and clarinetist, delighting family and friends with performances of challenging pieces like The Maple Leaf Rag and Flight of the Bumblebee. His music was a window into his beautiful and sensitive soul.
He was active in scouting, even attending the 1973 Scout Jamboree in Farragut State Park, Idaho. He and his brothers John and Paul were awarded the rank of Eagle Scout on the same day, a great family celebration and a reflection of David's dedication, perseverance, and desire to serve others.
He also served faithfully as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Santiago, Chile, welcoming many people into the church.
David's life was filled with major mental health challenges, but he faced his struggles with resilience, innocence, and a gentle heart. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his dry and insightful wit, and his remarkable ability to bring peace and perspective to those around him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Stanford and Shirley Cazier, and his younger brothers, Paul Richard Cazier and Thomas Michael Cazier.
He is survived by his brother, John Stanford Cazier, who cherishes the many memories and the profound influence David had on his life.
The family would like to express sincere gratitude for the many individuals at Bear River Mental Health and Rocky Mountain Care who have done so much to help David over the years.
A service will be held Friday, July 11th at 1:00 p.m. in the Logan Nelson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at the Logan City Cemetery. There will also be a recording of the service that will be posted on the Nelson Funeral Home website.
