Our beloved husband and father, Dennis Bischoff Mason, passed away peacefully on April 7, 2026, after a battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Dennis was known for his playful spirit and storytelling. He often recounted memories, such as leaving a sack of snakes he caught in the closet, which was later discovered by his mother. Another favorite involved setting off a cherry bomb in chemistry class with his friends Stan and Jay, who pretended to "die." He also affectionately called all his girlfriends "Twinkle Toes." In the midst of this, Fay cleverly eliminated the competition by baking a cake that said, “Love, Twinkle Toes,” prompting Dad to call every name in his black book to find out who had delivered it. Dennis and Fay went on to share 60 wonderful years of marriage.
As a boy, his farm years with his father, Wayne, were among his happiest. He proudly wore a leather vest and chaps wherever he went. With his talent for leatherwork and tooling, he later made vests and chaps for each of his grandchildren. After his father’s passing, Dennis cared deeply for his mother, Pearl, looking after her for 28 years.
Dennis served a mission in the South German Mission and, upon returning home, held many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He loved to sing his favorite German hymns in their original language. We spent countless family evenings watching his slide shows of Germany.
Dennis was inventive and loved dreaming up ideas, such as hydrogen-powered vehicles and electric trains circling a pond at Bear Lake. He used his creativity for many years as a Cub Scout Scoutmaster. He created light-up Arrow of Light presentations and cast plaster figures for each boy. His Pinewood Derby cars were true works of art. Boys from the ward gathered at his Bear Lake waterfront, where many earned their sailing merit badge.
Dennis also had a deep love for classic cars. Shortly after his marriage, he purchased a Model A. In 2014, his dream of restoring it was fulfilled, and he proudly drove it in parades.
Dennis was a true “Utah Man, sir!” He earned a degree in electrical engineering and rarely missed a University of Utah football game, cheering on the Utes with gusto. He often said, “I’m for the U of U and anyone who beats BYU.”
Above all, Dennis loved Fay, his sweetheart, with all his heart. He was her biggest fan and traveled the world with her on her choir adventures.
Dennis delighted those around him with his infectious laugh. He will be deeply missed for his playful sense of humor, his silly faces, tickle fights, and his unforgettable Donald Duck impression.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Fay Lohner Mason; his children, Kirsten (Shane), Eric, Shannon (Bryan), Mark (Lynise), and Heidi; and 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
We are deeply grateful to the staff at Sunshine Terrace for the compassionate care they provided Dennis in his final year. Their kindness and support brought comfort to both him and our family.
