Donald Robert Harrison, 81, of San Antonio, TX, passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, after a prolonged illness. He has entered eternal rest surrounded by his better angels.
He was preceded in death by his father, Russell David Harrison, Sr., mother, Hazel Kincaid (Harrison) Waistel, and brother Russell David Harrison, Jr. Gone, but not forgotten is his best buddy, an eight-year-old "puppy" named Rags. Long walks, playtime, and Rags fetching his morning newspaper. They were inseparable.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years Donna (Lamagna), son Todd Harrison, of Missoula, MT, and daughter, Tracy Harrison Knight of Las Vegas, NV, and his sister Charlene Dixon (Harrison) of Brigham City, UT. Also surviving are his three stepchildren,
Tracey Jones, Tristin Sullivan, Michael Warner, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
His career with the California Highway Patrol spanned 26 years, proudly serving the people of South Los Angeles, Hollister-Gilroy and Truckee. He was selected to serve as an EVOC Instructor at the CHP Academy until his promotion to Sergeant. His
assignments included Barstow, Marin, Solano (Fairfield) offices, retiring from theCordelia Inspection Facility. Don was also veteran of the United States Air Force and served as Past President of Lions Clubs International, Vacaville, CA.
If one word described Don, it would be "charming." He had a great smile, a firm handshake, and befriended everyone who crossed his path. He loved tinkering with classic cars, fishing, traveling, an occasional cigar, and a good bottle of scotch. He would never answer a question with a simple yes – he would always answer "indubitably," his favorite word of all time.
Special thanks and gratitude to the New Beginnings Hospice, Sacred Heart Hospice and the staff at The Oaks in Garden Ridge. Their compassion and level of care are sincerely appreciated.
Services will be private with final interment in Smithfield, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer's Association, the CHP Widow & Orphans Fund or an animal rescue organization of your choice.
