Edgar “Vern” Pitcher (82), our beloved dad, husband, brother, and Papa, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2024, surrounded by all four of his loving children and wife.
Vern was the son of Elaine Hulse Pitcher and Joseph Lorin Pitcher and the third of six children. Vern grew up in Cache Valley with his five siblings and cousins. After graduating high school, Vern immediately joined the US Navy and served as a Third-Class Gunner’s Mate.
A few years after returning home from the US Navy, Vern married Linda Larsen. They were married for 37 years (later divorced) and had four amazing children together that were the light of his life. Vern was so proud of Troy, Deaette, Mandy, and Stacie.
Vern spent most of his career working for Mountain Fuel/Questar Gas. Vern strived hard to provide excellent customer service to everyone he met. He loved to work hard and work hard with his hands. After working 33 years for Questar Gas, he retired for a while, only to go back to work part time for the Cache County School District for another 10 years before fully retiring. Vern was always working in the shed, shop, garage, yard—you name it—he’d find something to work on.
During his time working for the school district, Vern married Marilyn Scott in June 2005. Together they did a lot of traveling doing the things that he loved: fishing, crystal hunting, spending many weekends at the cabin in Bear Lake, cheering on the grandkids at their sports activities, birthday parties, celebrations, game nights, and dinners. There was nothing he loved more than spending time with family. Vern was a man with a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He loved to make people smile and laugh with a joke or one-liner, instantly making friends with everyone he met.
Vern is survived by his loving family and friends, who will remember him for his amazing smile, contagious laugh and big hugs, his jokes and witty one-liners and love for people in all walks of life. He was an inspiration to us all. His family will forever cherish him and the profound impact he had on their lives. Vern’s legacy of love, hard work, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, November 16th at 12 noon with a visitation from 10:30am-11:45am at Nelson Funeral Home Chapel (162 E. 400 N. in Logan, Utah). Military Honors will be presented at Nelson Funeral Home prior to the memorial service. As a tribute to Vern, we are all going to wear funny shirts like he did. Please feel free to wear a funny shirt in his honor!
