Elsa Melania McGahhey, a beloved daughter, sister, mother, aunt, cherished grandmother, dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, passed away on November 25, 2025, at the age of 76. Elsa’s kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit touched everyone she met.
Born October 22, 1949, in San Salvador, El Salvador, to Héctor Zelaya Funes and María Erlinda García Ayala, Elsa was a lifelong example of faith and generosity, which she learned from her cherished parents. She joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on August 30th, 1963 in El Salvador. Truly a pioneer for her Church in that nation when the capital city only had two small branches that conducted meetings in a rented house.
Elsa's greatest joy was her family. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Darrell McGahhey, and is survived by her daughter Jessica Lynn (Kyle Kelley), son Eric Anthony, and four cherished grandchildren. Elsa was known affectionately as "Bueli” by her grandchildren.
She enjoyed cooking for her family, and her kitchen was the heart of her home, filled with love, laughter, good food, and treats.
Elsa dedicated 12 years of service as a temple worker in the Logan, Utah Temple, a calling she deeply loved. Her unwavering faith and kindness touched all who knew her. Her memory will forever be a blessing to her family and friends.
Memorial services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (625 E. 600 S., Smithfield, Utah) on December 6th, 2025 at 11 AM.
