Frank Miles Nilson

Frank Miles Nilson, age 96, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on November 7th, 2025, in Smithfield, UT. He was born on December 30th, 1928, in Logan, UT, to Miles and Lavell (Pitcher) Nilson.

Frank married the love of his life, Nancy (Webb) Nilson, on January 15th, 1955. Together, they raised six children and enjoyed a life filled with love and adventure. Nancy was his life partner and friend.

Frank was drafted into the United States Army in 1950 and re-enlisted in 1959. He retired in 1976 as a Master Sergeant after serving 26 years in the United States Army, which included seven overseas tours and various locations throughout the United States. He was very proud of his service to our country.

After retiring from the military, he came home to Smithfield, UT, where he worked for a Chevy dealership in Logan, UT, as a mechanic. He retired from there after 20 years, his motto was GM or nothing. He was an avid GMC man, and if you didn’t own a GMC you weren’t driving a good vehicle.

He joined the American Legion and held various titles, including commander and treasurer. He marched at the head of the Smithfield parades, carrying the flags, and ensured that flags were placed on every grave for Memorial Day. He presented flags at the Sky View High School for their Veterans Day program and honored the veterans with dinners on Veterans Day. He raised money to send juniors to boys and girls state. He arranged military honors for veterans at their funerals. He was dedicated to his community and every veteran, he was well-liked and well-loved.

At 95, Frank went through the temple to be sealed to his wife and children who passed before him. He felt it was something that needed to be done and was very proud of that accomplishment.

Frank is survived by his daughters, Barbara Nilson of Vernal, Ut. Susan (Thalman) and Troy Wheeler of Smithfield, Ut. Sherry Marriott of Evanston, Wy. His son Miles (Randy) Nilson of Smithfield, Ut. 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren and his brother Douglas Nilson of Smithfield, Ut.

Frank was preceded in death by his wife Nancy (Webb) Nilson, son Curtis Nilson, and daughter Patricia Pitkin, His grandson Tory Nilson of Vernal, Ut. His parents, and 6 siblings.
