Janice Peyton Spalding John passed away on Friday morning, October 17th, 2025, at the age of 87 years.
Born in Louisville Kentucky, August 25th, 1938, the third child of parents Bettie Wray Cozatt Spalding and James Beaven Spalding. Janice always spoke so lovingly of her childhood. As a child, the family moved to the country in Georgetown, Indiana. It was a time of childhood adventures exploring the countryside, with her siblings and cousins. She loved the multiple pets that included goats (Nanny Goat and Billy Goat) as well as many cats and dogs.
In her early adult life, Janice was an accomplished horsewoman and won many showmanship and competition trophies. She was, until the end of her life, a prolific writer and poet. Her greatest passion, besides her family, was her beautiful gardens. She designed and built several beautiful landscape gardens with the help of her husband.
She spent many happy years with her beloved husband Larry, and was the proud mother of Gwendolyn, Michael, Mark and Kenny. And a proud Grandmother and Great Grandmother. She will always be loved and remembered.
Janice is preceded in death by her beloved husband Hyrum Larry John; sons Michael Robert John and Mark Damon John; Grandson Mark Damon John II; and her brothers Kenneth Cozatt Spalding and John Douglas Spalding; and her sister in law and dear friend Linda Sizemore.
Janice is survived by her children Gwendolyn Valiente, James (Susan) Kenneth John; 9 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren; a brother James (Nan) Beavan Spalding Jr. and sister Bettie Wray Spalding Larkin; and sister in law Sandra Spalding.
