Janice Reese Petersen, 75, passed away on March 30, 2026, in Logan, Utah, the town where she was born, raised, and spent most of her life.
Janice was the kind of person who made others feel good, happy, and deeply loved. She had a playful, quick-witted sense of humor, and those who knew her best will always remember her sarcasm, her one-liners, and the way she could make people laugh at just the right moment. She was kind, steady, and giving, someone whose presence made people feel safe and cared for.
Her life centered on family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend who found joy in making others feel special. She loved being together for holidays, celebrating birthdays, and creating meaningful moments with the people she loved. Even in the last week of her life, she was thinking about others’ birthdays and how to make them feel remembered. That was Janice, always giving more than she ever wanted in return.
She especially loved the small beauties of life: daisies, butterflies, hummingbirds, a cold Diet Coke, and time spent with family. In her final months, she painted rocks and gave them away, carefully personalizing each one. It was one more way she shared her love, offering people something that felt like a piece of her heart.
Janice’s faith was a steady foundation in her life. She loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and sought to live her values through kindness, service, and caring for others. She quietly gave of herself in ways both large and small.
She is survived by her sister, Joy (Dave) Poulsen; her daughters, Stephanie (Christopher) Woodbrey and Juli (James) Boyd; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Darwin and Barbara Reese; her sister, Kathryn Nelson; and her brother, Dale Reese.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Terrace Grove for their compassionate care, and a special thank you to Erin, her hospice nurse. Janice cherished the friendships she made there and deeply appreciated the kindness shown to her.
A viewing will be held at Nelson Funeral Home at 162 E 400 N Logan, UT. 84321 on Tuesday April 7, 2026 at 10:00 to 11:30. Friends and family are invited to gather and share a final farewell. A graveside service for family will follow at Smithfield Cemetery in Smithfield, Utah.
