Karen Low

July 8, 1952 — July 30, 2025

Logan

Karen Low passed away at her home on July 30, 2025, at the age of 73. She was born on July 8, 1952, in Logan, Utah, the first of five children to Ned Taylor and Diane Elwood Low.

Karen grew up in Smithfield. She attended Summit Elementary, North Cache Junior High and graduated from Sky View High School in 1970. During these years, Karen helped Mom a lot in the kitchen preparing meals and bottling vegetables and fruits from the family garden and fruit trees. She also helped in the fields on Dad’s farm, hoeing beets and potatoes, driving the truck to haul hay, helping with the planting and harvesting of potatoes and herding cows.

After graduating from high school, Karen was employed at the Bluebird Café as a cook, while she attended classes at Utah State University. It was then that she made the decision to move to Logan and venture out on her own. In 1973, she began working at the Utah State University Distribution Center. Karen enjoyed meeting the many people that would frequent the Center as well as the many employees and students that she associated with daily. Karen climbed the ladder and was an administrative assistant there until her retirement in 2010. After her retirement she didn’t stay idle for long and started employment at Rainy’s Flies & Supplies. Even though it was part time, it kept her busy and she enjoyed the friendships that she made there.

Karen was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In her younger years she served as girls camp director and assistant several times. She loved being in the mountains and often said that her idea of a vacation was to go to a campsite, sit in a chair, look at the pine trees and listen to the river. She had several callings during her later years, but her favorite, long time and current calling as ward and stake librarian held her whole heart and soul. She was extremely dedicated to keeping the libraries in top shape and order and spent many hours assisting and helping make sure the members had what they needed.

As her parents aged, Karen spent countless hours dedicated to helping them with all their basic needs. She took them on short sightseeing trips and made sure that they were able to get to grandchildren’s activities as much as possible. She was truly a blessing for them and us, and we are so grateful to her for that.

Karen loved to do puzzles. There was one up almost year-round that she would be working on. She enjoyed several television shows: MASH, The Price Is Right, Star Trek, Alone, Survivor, as well as western movies and anything with John Wayne! She enjoyed going to musicals and live theater productions. Whenever Neil Diamond came to Salt Lake City, Karen, with her ticket in hand would be to his concert. She was one of his faithful and loyal fans. Karen never forgot any of her family’s birthdays. She always had a gift for her nieces, nephews and even her great nieces and nephews. As years went by, it was guaranteed that a card would arrive in the mail on your special day. She attended many ballgames, dance recitals, gymnastic competitions, graduations and weddings. Christmas was always well thought out by her as she planned each year what gifts she would give to everyone. Always wrapped special and delivered with much love from her.

We all love her and will miss her so much but know that she lived her life in a way that through the atonement of Jesus Christ she will now return to our loving Heavenly Father and her parents that she so loved and missed.

Karen leaves behind her siblings, Janet Traveller (David), Robert Low (Brenda), Lisa Bray, Mark Low (Colleen). Her 12 nieces and nephews, Jason, Kellie, Heidi, Jodie Traveller; Brady, Megan, Caitlin Low; Trent, Traci Thomas; Jacob, Carter, Katie Low and their spouses, as well as 27 great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025, at the Nelson Funeral Home, 162 East 400 North, Logan, UT from 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm.
