Lewis Ray Blackman

Ecclesiastes 7:1 –

“A good name is better than good oil, and the day of death is better than the day of birth.”

Lewis Ray Blackman was born on August 13, 1938, and passed away on August 3, 2026, at the age of 87; just shy of being 88.

Like his father and grandfather before him, Lewis was a matter-of-fact, down-to-earth, & hardworking individual; a “roll up your sleeves and get the job done” kind of man, a quality he passed on to his two sons; Christopher and Dominic Blackman.

Lewis was born in Jonesborough, Texas, to Robert Vernon Blackman and Margaret Elizabeth Weaver. He grew up living between Jonesborough and Sterling City, Texas; spending his teenage years in Sterling City, where his father worked as a ranch manager. After graduating from high school, Lewis joined the United States Air Force and was ultimately stationed in England.

After being honorably discharged, Lewis returned to help his father on a ranch in Vaughn, New Mexico. It was there that he met his future wife, Doris Elaine Easley; They were married on February 12, 1963, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Lewis was reserved in both speech and emotion, but the words he chose to share were always meaningful, and the love he had for the people and pets in his life he felt deeply.

Lewis was Baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on July 5, 1975. He enjoyed the friends & the meetings, and the promises that the Bible gives regarding the future. A week before his passing, these two scriptures were shared with him:

Isaiah 35: 5 & 6 - “At that time the eyes of the blind will be opened, And the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. At that time the lame will leap like the deer, And the tongue of the speechless will shout for joy. For waters will burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert plain.”

Isaiah 65:21 & 22 - “They will build houses and live in them, And they will plant vineyards and eat their fruitage. They will not build for someone else to inhabit, Nor will they plant for others to eat. For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree, And the work of their hands my chosen ones will enjoy to the full.”

After these scriptures were read, Lewis squeaked out a small smile. His family and friends look forward to the day when they can welcome Lewis and Doris back in the paradise hope these verses describe.

Lewis was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years; his father, Robert Vernon Blackman; his mother, Margaret Elizabeth Blackman; his older sister, Robbie LaHarvie Blackman Weinrich; and his younger sister, Thea Marie Blackman, who passed shortly after birth.

He is survived by his eldest son, Christopher Blackman, and his children, Tyler and Alexis; his younger son, Dominic Blackman, and Dominic’s wife, Karen. Lewis’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
