Our beautiful and amazing mother and grandmother passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026, in Casa Grande, Arizona.
She was born on February 13, 1938 to Archie and June Budge. Her early years were spent in Star Valley and Smoot, Wyoming, where she attended a one room school house. She rode a horse to school each morning with her sister, Nona, and has fond memories of those days.
Later, the family moved to Utah and she attended school in Ogden and Logan. She was a cheerleader at Logan High School.
Helen married Stan OBray soon after she graduated from high school and they had two children: Laree and Allen. Soon after Allen was born they divorced and she enrolled at Utah State University and got her teaching degree. She taught in Logan for many years at Whittier, Woodruff and Wilson Elementary Schools.Throughout her teaching career, she won many outstanding teacher awards and was loved by her students and colleagues.
In 1968, she married Marlon Rogers and gained three more children: Paul, Cindy and Kathy. They became a blended family and raised the kids in Logan.
After their children were raised, Marlon and Helen moved to Hesperia, California, where Helen continued to teach school for many years. After she retired, she was elected to the school board in Hesperia. She was a highly respected and beloved board member.
Her last 5 years were spent in Arizona with Allen and his wife Denise. They took amazing care of her as she was wheelchair bound. She often commented on how happy she was living there and how she loved the view of the lake each day from her chair, and watching the beautiful variety of birds.
During the last year of her life, she wrote a book called “Birds of Pray.” It shows her love of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She often commented that she just wanted to live long enough to see her book come out. A few days before she passed, her granddaughter, Chelsey, brought her a finished copy of the book and it went on sale on Amazon just days before she passed, so she got her final wish.
Helen was an amazing woman and a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings throughout her life and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. She has always been described as extremely generous and one of the kindest people anyone had ever met. She loved her family and her favorite activities included spending time with her kids and grandkids - especially when it involved playing Pinochle or going out to dinner, for which she always insisted on paying .
She leaves behind her five children, 27 grandchildren, 92 great-grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and dear friends. She is loved and missed more than words can say.
Funeral services will be on Friday, February 20th at 11:00 at the Millville 1st Ward Chapel, with a viewing prior to the service at 10:00. Interment will follow at the Millville/Nibley Cemetery.
