Michael Bret Draper was born October 18, 1959 and died May 23, 2026 from a short battle with cancer.
Mike was a true servant to others. He gave generously of his time, talents, and heart in ways both large and small. He volunteered as an usher at the Eccles Theater, where he welcomed people with warmth and kindness. He also shared his love of music through a singing group called the Town Singers. Music brought him joy, and he loved bringing that joy to others.
Mike had a deep love for nature and plants. He saw beauty and meaning in God’s creations all around him. He knew the scientific names of countless flowers and shared stories about his favorites and why they were special to him. To Mike, flowers were not just beautiful—they reflected wonder, order, and the hand of the Creator.
Most importantly, Mike was a man of deep and abiding faith. He was a disciple of Jesus Christ and treated others with gentleness, kindness and sincere love. He served faithfully in many callings within his ward and sought throughout his life to follow God’s guidance in every way he could. His devotion never wavered. Even through loss and hardship, his testimony remained strong and steady.
Mike believed with all his heart in the eternal nature of families. For the past 19 years, he carried the memory of his beloved wife, Laurel (Hansen), with love and faith, trusting that through the sealing power of the restored Priesthood, they could one day be reunited Eternally. That hope gave him strength, comfort, and peace.
Mike also cherished his large blended family. As the 13th of 15 children, he understood the importance of family bonds, compassion, and connection. He was preceded in death by his parents, three siblings, and his beloved Laurel. We take comfort in believing that those joyful reunions are now taking place.
Though we will deeply miss Mike’s gentle spirit, faithful example, and loving heart, his life leaves behind a legacy of service, music, faith, and love that will continue to bless all who knew him.
