Myrna Rae Olson Maughan, age 87, returned to her heavenly home on October 14th, 2025 after living an exemplary life. She passed away surrounded by her loving family in her home in Martinez, California.
Throughout Myrna’s 87 years, she was many things to many people. She was a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was also a devoted disciple of Jesus Christ and lived His teachings daily.
Myrna was born on March 1, 1938, in Providence, Utah, to Hazel Mae Andrews and Neil Wiser Olson. She was the oldest of four children and as a devoted and adoring sister, did all she could to help with the needs of the family. She was described as fun loving and like a second mother to her younger siblings.
Myrna grew up in Logan, Utah. At age 15, she met her sweetheart, Paul Leishman Maughan, at South Cache High School. They continued to date until they were sealed in the Logan temple on June 14, 1957. Together they shared 68 loving years of marriage. They were devoted to their family and their faith, raising six children in a home filled with love, laughter, and quiet example.
She was also known as a second mother to many and her home (and pool) was often filled with neighbors and friends. She welcomed everyone in, and often had at least one of her grandkids living in her home.
Myrna and Paul also dedicated themselves to serving others, which included numerous church callings and a mission to New Zealand from 1998 to 2000. There, they shared their faith and touched the lives of many. Throughout her life, Myrna shared her testimony through word and action. She could often be found checking in on neighbors, bringing a meal to someone in need, calling a friend or encouraging her family.
After many years of being a devoted mother to her 6 children, Myrna decided to continue her education at Diablo Valley Community College at age 50. She was serious about her studies and graduated with an Associate of Arts, earning a 4.0 grade point average. It was an accomplishment she worked hard for and was proud of.
Myrna will be remembered for her unwavering faith, unconditional love, nurturing nature, being a willing listener, her contagious laughter, her kindness, and her ability to see the best in everyone. She was a continuous light and enjoyed family gatherings, church services, holding her grand babies, and playing the piano. She cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. She seemed to have a song for everything and was able to find the beauty in the ordinary. She loved planting flowers, growing tomatoes, reading books, going for walks, theater, See’s candy, and finding a good deal. She had a gift for making the simplest things feel fun and time spent with her always felt comforting and uplifting. She also proved her strength and faith as she twice battled cancer. Even during the final days of her life, Myrna continued to be kind and gracious. She could often be heard telling those who were caring for her how much she appreciated and loved them.
