Reid H. Jones

Reid Hugh Jones, 88, passed away peacefully at home on September 27th, 2026 surrounded by his loving family.

Born on September 19th, 1938, at the family home in Wellsville, Utah, Reid was the last child of 7, born to Sterling Morse and Melba Gunnell Jones.

Dad spent his childhood making memories and causing mischief with friends and family in Wellsville and Mt. Sterling. Climbing trees, taking a summer dip at the swimming hole on the little bear river, hunting, playing ball and working on the family farm. Farm chores included, milking cows, feeding pigs, thinning beets, irrigating and putting up hay. Reids grandfather, Ricy Davis Jones, homesteaded the family farm in the late 1800’s and Dad was eventually able to buy the farm, this was something that he was proud of. Dad attended Floradell Elementary, Wellsville Junior High and South Cache High School. After high school dad spent 2 years in the service, stationed in France.

After the service, Dad married his high school sweetheart, Catherine Major, on August 21st 1959 at the Salt Lake Utah Temple. They were recently blessed to celebrate 67 years together. Together they built a successful life of love, hard work and caring for family.

Regardless of how busy things were, each with full-time jobs and the farm, Mom and Dad always made time for family vacations and hunting trips. Later in life Mom and Dad were able to spend many winters in Arizona. They enjoyed the Arizona warmth in the winter very much and made special friendships while there. Dad worked at Thiokol for 30 plus years, he was a machinist by trade and a farmer at heart. Dad also had a water witching talent; he witched many water wells for people around northern Utah.

Dad is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, a great granddaughter, and some special to him, brother in-laws. He is survived by his wife Catherine Jones and his children: Greg (Marty) Jones, Jan (Sparky) Anderson, and Jackie (Ron) Capito; as well as 9 grandchildren and 17.5 great grandchildren, extended family and dear friends.

We would like to thank our Hospice nurses Jamie and Christine for their compassionate service during Dads last days.

For those that would like to attend, a graveside service will be held Thursday October 1st at the Wellsville Cemetery (400 N 200 E Wellsville, Utah) at 11:00.
