Sharmeen Bell Moore

October 19, 1937 — November 19, 2022

Our dear mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher completed her earthly mission and stepped through the veil on Saturday, November 19, 2022 after a valiant battle with Cancer, one month after her 85th birthday. It must have been a joyous reunion in the Spirit World to be reunited with her eternal sweetheart, Sheldon, and other family members and friends who were waiting to welcome her there.
Sharmeen was the youngest of three children born to William Harold Bell and Greta Otella Johnson Bell. She began her earthly mission on October 19, 1937 in Logan, Utah. She attended school, married, raised her family, and taught school, always residing in her beloved hometown of Logan.
It was on Agathon Day, on the campus of the Agricultural College, which later became known as Utah State University, where Sharmeen first met her future husband. Sharmeen and a few of her classmates, were touring the campus as High School Seniors, and decided to take a tour through the Automotive Technology Building where Sheldon was serving as a tour guide. The “tour” began there and continued until that evening when they hiked to the “A” on the hill above Logan, and then danced the night away in the old Safeway parking lot to the music playing on the car radio. Sheldon took Mom to her Logan High School graduation dance. Mom graduated from Logan High in 1955 and then attended the Agricultural College for two years on a scholarship.
Sheldon and Sharmeen continued their courtship and were sealed in the Logan Temple on June 12, 1957. Over the next 60 years, they built a life together and raised their three children until Sheldon passed away on June 29, 2017.
After their three children were all in school, Sharmeen made the decision to return to Utah State University and earn her degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Development. She maintained a high-grade point average while also being a wife and mother and graduated from USU in 1974. Vice-President Gerald Ford was the commencement speaker that year.
She was working as a classroom aide when a teaching position opened up and she was offered the job. She started teaching First-grade part way through the school year at Wilson Elementary in 1974. A year later, she transferred to the Woodruff School and taught Second-grade for eight years. After her mother became ill, she transferred to Adams Elementary so she could be closer to her Mom and help take care of her during her lunch breaks. She taught Third-grade at Adams Elementary for 12 years until she retired in 1995. Mom was a dedicated teacher devoted to her profession. She knew how to engage her students in the learning process. She loved the children she taught and her fellow colleagues. She held high expectations for her students and for herself.
She was asked by the Logan City School District Superintendent to start up the Gifted and Talented program while teaching at Adams Elementary. She and some of her colleagues were then asked to travel to other school districts, including Mobile, Alabama to introduce the program to other schools.
Mom was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in the Primary, Young Women, and Relief Society organizations. She, along with our Dad, served the spiritual needs of the patients and their families in the Branch at Logan Regional Hospital until Dad’s health declined and he was no longer able to serve in that capacity.
Mom loved her family and looked forward to celebrating birthdays, holidays and other special times together. She went out of her way to make holidays special and memorable for her family.
Music was an art form that Mom both appreciated and enjoyed, so much so, that she
insisted that each of her children have some musical training through private lessons. She created memorable moments with her children and grandchildren as she taught them
silly songs like Little Bunny Foo Foo, and Black Socks.
Mom and Dad supported their children’s interests and attended every recital, dance revue, concert, or sporting event that they could.
She and Dad also liked to travel. Every year for as long as they were able, they planned a vacation to Jackson Hole and Yellowstone where they fell in love with the Bar J Wranglers and hiking around Jenny’s Lake.
Sharmeen was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Harold Johnson Bell, and Juanita Bell Smith, and her husband, Sheldon. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Kevin Sheldon Moore, (Nedra); Lori Moore Larson, (Greg), and Tamara Moore Peterson, (Farrell). She has seven Grandchildren, eighteen Great-Grandchildren, and three Great-Great Grandchildren, with two more on the way.
We want to thank all the doctors, nurses, and staff who assisted our Mom and family throughout her cancer diagnosis and treatments, particularly Dr. Matthew Wilson, Dr. Sarunas Sliesoraitis, and Dr. Ryan Bair. We also want to thank the nurses and staff at Symbii Home, Health, and Hospice, ComeforCare, and Autumn Care for your kind and compassionate service to our Mom and family during a very difficult time.
Mom will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her, especially her enthusiasm for life, determination, and sense of humor. For now, we are apart, but the love is always there.
