Smithfield

With broken hearts, we announce the unexpected passing of our beloved "Pancake" Tyson James Alvares, passed away on July 25, 2026, in Wyoming, at the age of 38.

Tyson was born on November 10, 1987, in Logan, Utah, to his loving mother, Nancy Hernandez. Cache Valley was the place he called home, where he was raised, attended Cache High School, and built lifelong friendships that he treasured throughout his life.

From the time he was a young boy, Tyson found peace and happiness in the outdoors. As a child, he dreamed of one day living on the coast, where he imagined spending his days surrounded by the ocean. That love for nature and the outdoors stayed with him throughout his life.

Tyson had a heart that was bigger than life. He was known for his contagious smile, quick sense of humor, adventurous spirit, and his ability to make anyone feel like family. Whether he was making someone laugh, lending a helping hand, or simply spending time with the people he loved, Tyson lived life with an open heart. He had a way of leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.

Of all the roles Tyson held in life, the one he treasured most was being a father. His three cherished children were his greatest pride and joy and his love for them was unconditional. His family meant everything to him.

Tyson is survived by his loving mother, Nancy Hernandez; his beautiful daughters Chloe, and Zoe Alvares. And his beloved “Wife”, Shakiya and their son River Alvares, along with his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, and countless friends who became family through the years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Daniel and Florinda, his amazing step dad, Kim Sorensen, his big brother, Michael , his uncle’s Sammy and Daniel his aunt Carol and “sister” Melissa, who undoubtedly welcomed him home with open arms.

Tyson's passing has left an unimaginable emptiness in the hearts of all who loved him. While his time on earth was far too short, the love he gave, the laughter he shared, and the memories he created will live on forever. His spirit can be found in every sunrise over the mountains, every peaceful cast across the water, and every embrace shared among those who loved him. Though we will miss him every day, we find comfort in knowing that love never dies, and Tyson's love will remain with us always.

The family asks that you honor Tyson by embracing those you love, sharing kindness freely, and never taking a single moment for granted.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations to assist with funeral expenses.
